Now before you all go shooting me down for this, it's only theoretical atm.

So, if I was to want to do this, am I correct in saying I would need the following:

New exhaust manifold,
A turbo,
Some sort of dump valve,
New inlet manifold,
Intercooler,
Various pipes,
Larger downpipe,
Larger MAF,
ECU update,
Larger injectors,
New pistons to lower the compression ratio
Stronger head gasket,
Bigger air filter or air box
Uprated clutch,

I'm sure there are bits I've missed out, what else would I need? New spark plugs?

Thanks in advance guys.

new clutch
brake conversion (cupra brakes at least)
new suspension
thicker ARB

It all depends on whether you would be going for a light pressure turbo install or a big boost install. Light pressure you would probably get away with stock engine internals.

Hmm, I'm not sure really, I mean a light boost job, say about 140bhp ish might be cool, but if I was going to do it then maybe it's best to do it properly?

Yeah, I guess so. It's totting up pretty quickly.

I just want a litttttttle bit more power from mine. It's supposed to have like 105 but it's old so 100 maybe after a decent service.

Is there anything realistic to give me like 20/30bhp extra?

Only thing really to give that incrase on a 1.6 would be a bottle of NOS I guess?

Surpose you could go cams and headwork kind of route but I not sure you'd get 30bhp and wouldnt be cheap.

Hmmm. How much does it cost to have NOS fitted and how long do they last per bottle, and how much is a new bottle?

Have you got all the breathing mods (air filter, full exhaust system) and a remap? That's about the best you can do for non-silly money. After that there's cams, stroker kits, turbo or charger upgrade - but all this will be very expensive.

the car wash ;)
A couple of hundred quid for the initial set up of a n.o.s system ... You could order the kit and fit it yourself if you know what youre doin ? then after that a bottle re-fill will be around £10 per lb of gas ( it was the last time i had a re-fill bout 2 years ago )
nos is a quick and easy way of getting extra horses .... but too much will blow holes in the engines internals id only go 25bhp shot on a standard engine with a progressor as a whole hit will cause problems in the long run

progressor will feed the nos into the engine slowly over the rev range .. The kit i had wouldnt kick in in 1st gear and slowly released the gas between 3k and 8k also a 10lb bottle will only give you a few hits then its back to the gas man for a re-fill hope that helps[B)]

Thanks s4oopie!

Lord I'm looking into getting a good induction kit and cold air feed because I have a funny feeling the engine cover/filter box is VERY restrictive on the 16v, especially when the engine is hot or it is a hot day. Going to get some sort of exhaust mod when I get the bumper sorted...

Thanks a lot guys

My mate with the same engine had 138BHP with better breathing, freer flowing exhaust and a sprint boost.
He uprated the brakes and suspension and made himself a very competitive and fun track/road car.
Also think about throttle bodies and cams. Very good for an NA engine

again, thanks.

brakes are defo on my list, and suspension is on its way.

what is sprint boost?

How much do full exhaust systems cost? and id definitely get a cold air feed.

138 would be sweet as a nut! or anything like that.

remap looks pricey but defo worth it after i've finished modding it power side.

:)

Not compared to your other route though.
Full system would be about £500. Google sprint boost;)
