my 1.4 ibiza has died, REBUILDING HELP AND ADVICE NEEDED

HI,
I Havnt been on this forum for a while, my 1.4 2000 v reg seat ibiza has died the engine is kaput and needs replacing,

however the car itself is in mint condition so me and my mechanic friend have decided to rebuid it to make it better than it was,

we dont want to put a standard 1.4 engine back in but at the same tim we dont want to put anything to big in as we dont want to change the brakes and suspension on the car yet,

we were thinking manybe a 1.6 sport engine, or maybe a 1.6 from a vw golf,

wot engine would u guys use if it was you doing this????

we need to find an engine that will fit and could do with advice from anyone who knows anything about swapping an engine in 1 of theese ibiza's,

also if any1 has paid to have an engine replaced before wot did they pay to get it done??

any help in getting this mighty little seat back on the road for the summer is apreciated,

cnt wait to start driving it again:)

to change it from anything other than a 1.4 8v will cost lots.

new wiring loom, gearbox, driveshafts etc

You might as well just drop in a refurb 1.4, and save on all the associated costs

i was thinking my 1.4 is the standard 8v mpi version, could i not fit a 16v 1.4 engine to gain a couple extra bhp while im there??

wot different 1.4 engines did vag make that would fit into my seat,

maybe a polo or golf engine or sumthing,???

im just thinking since my engine is dead it has to be replaced is there anyway i can try and gain somthing from this whole deal and end up with a car that is slightly in ome way better than it was???

it'd still need the wiring, ecu etc.

low mileage 1.4 engines look like they're about 350quid - how did your old one fail?

basically i left it for 2 months and the battery went flat, i jump started it and drove it onto the motorway and it died, it wasnt running probly up untill the point it died either,

the aa man towed me home and said it had blown up,

the next day i had a driveway mechanic come round and he spent a couple of hours replacing the batter etc and it basically killed a brand new batter imediatly and wouldnt start,

he turned it over from his battery on his van and when he took the air filter off u could see the belt jumping because the tensioner was broken and fire and oil were shooting out of the air inlet,

my good friend is a mechanic and a very good mechanic aswell, he works at a performance car mechanics in southend on sea , essex specialising in engine mapping and ecu etc

he has explained to me that we will have to do the whole loom ecu engine gearbox etc but he is going to do all the work for me very cheap he just told me to have a look into a engine to go for and he is also looking into it,

wot would you do in this situation? how much do u think i could get a refurb engine and everything for and wich setup would you go for??

sounds like maybe the cambelt tensioner slipped & allowed the cambelt to misalign.

in which case - your valves will probably be bent, but not "blown up"

I'd whip the head off & have a look at what's bent - top end rebuild won't cost the earth.

engine remapping is a world apart from engine / wiring conversions though....

so before I spent lots of money on new parts, just investigate whats failed, you'd kick yourself if you could repair the car for £200

the arosas have 1.4 16v and there quite nippy, but it is a hell of a lot lighter than an ibiza! it will cost soo much to put another 1.4 in, you might aswell put something crazy in like an r32 golf engine or something, it'd probably be the same amount of messing about!!

yes i am not a mechanic, my friedn who is said exactly the same thing about the valves being bent, but he said to me there is a chance that it could be fixed but usually when ur valves bend like that it harms somthing else (cnt quite remember wot) he is getting it towed to his garage on tuesday and he is going to diagnose the problem and then we can go from there,

the garage he works at no wot they are talking about when it comes to performance engines and conversions they do enough of them

Either source another engine or get yours fixed. No point putting any real money into a 1.4 model tbh unless you have a real deep pocket. When i had mine i got a Polo engine with 18,000 miles for £275 delivered, was a straight swap as it was still AUD engine code. Get online for the breakers yards fella

i have bought a new leather interior includinds door cards and dash and a set of cupra alloys for £250 from a friend who wrote off his ibiza cupra wich i am going to fit

so a polo engine would fit? this is all i was really trying to get at with this thread,
(wot engine can i put in it from wot cars?)

my idea is to get a good low mileage engine in it and fit the interior and whells and some painted door skirts from a cupra and use it for a while and eventually sell it to earn my money back out of it , i only paid 1400 and ive seen em going for around 2000

so does that mean there would be no chance of making it work with a polo 1.4 16v engine of th same year?

would i have to put a 1.4 8v in it?

surely the only engine with the same engine code as mine would be the same 1.4 8v engine it already has?

or do some engines have the same engine code?

Have you even read what ive been writting or what. 1.4 8v AUD engine is whats put in the Ibiza an they do a 1.4 12v in the AUD engine in the Polo. If you did it that way make sure you get the loom with it as 1 plug is diferent
