I reall cant wait for the new FR and Cupra to come out! im hoping the 2.0L diesel will be in the new cupra with lots of ponies under the bonnet, if not il settle for the 1.4tsi....and if they do a tuning pack that will definately be getting put on!!

That kind of goes against the press releases that SEAT themselves have made. And there's allready an Aero Kit for the new Ibiza.

Generally everything dealers say can be taken with a pinch of salt Some of it may be true, but from my experience, they'll tell you anything they like.

That said, some interesting information there about power figures will be interesting to see if theres any truth to what you dealer has said!

Well I have just been to Seat to ask a few questions and to put my name down on a new FR or Cupra

The FR is going to be manual.

Cupra DSG

Apparently it is only hype that the Bocanegra is Going to be on sale. And that it isnlt actually happening, but there is a 'Aero Kit' that will come as a extra to be added to an fr or cupra, but this is in the pipeline

There is also going to be a Tuning Pack for the FR and Cupra that will take the Cupra to 240 bhp so i have been informed, at around 550 quid anbd will keep warranty as it will be fitted by the dealer.

Prices - 15,500 Cupra
13,500 FR but these are to be confirmed

Also a special paintwork for the FR and Cupra - Pearlescent White


Cupra Diesel going to be released ---- October time, and they are also reviewing the 1.4 engine as they may release it a 210 BHP instead of 180!!!!

I think it is pretty certain the Bocanegra will go on sale. What's not so certain is whether we'll get it in the UK.
VW were originally touting the 1.4 TSI with 210 bhp for the IROC which became the Scirocco so that's a definate future possibility for the Cupra/Bocanegra as it must exist. More likely is that the tuning pack for the Cupra will be the 210bhp version of the 1.4
I really, really don't think SEAT will get 240bhp out of a factory approved tuning kit for the 1.4 engine in the near future.

Hi guys - well... I have already put my deposit down on the Bocanegra, price £16,995 and have been told it will be a standalone car actually called the Bocanegra. Also, will only be available in 2 colours... Dakar Red and Candy White... will still use the same 180 1.4 as Cupra, and should be available a month after Cupra release so expect delivery Sept/Oct. Cant believe tuning kit will be available for 240bhp but can believe the 210 theory. Apparently these tuning kits have existed for Seat in Spain in the past but as usual we never get them in the UK. :D

I think it's a little dissappointing that the Bocanegra is being given the exact same engine as the Ibiza Cupra... I was under the impression it would be a car in it's own right, not just essentially a variant of the Ibiza range. It is still gorgeous to look at though!

Loving the boc, but not that keen on the paddles and the 1.4 seems an odd chocie (see below) I'll stick with my ibza sc sport i've ordered for now and when i can afford the insurance pick up a boc second hand if they're not making them anymore :)

I don't get why they are set on sticking a 1.4 engine in the high end models of ibizas... the standard 1.4 is 85 or 90 Ps, yeah? so these cars have been tuned and are giving you around 100% increase on output... I can't see that this leaves much headroom for getting much extra out of the car.. surely it would be better for them to but a bigger engine in, still tune it but leave it with more space for people who want to do their own thing to push it and get more power from it??

I did say this is what i had been told by a dealer and that it is not gospel,

£17k sounds good for Bocenegra but would be good as stated for a better out put so as to stand above the cupra

Will have to wait til september to see if the Boc actually sits in a showroom or not!

The reason they are putting a small engine in is because as manufacturers they are being encouraged by governments all over the world to reduce emissions and other dull things like that.
To say they are putting something like 100% more power out of the 1.4 over the poverty models is missing the point. The internals are beefed right up and there is the small point that there is both as super and turbo charger bolted on to it along with a massive intercooler. As you say you know nothing about tuning, lets just say that those additions help matters a little.
Oh, and also as manufacturers they don't give a fig about further tuning as they don't make any extra money out of what you pay a third party company after you have taken ownership, what they do give a damn about is warranty claims when you've been messing about with their millions of euros worth of research and development.

That's a Wankel/Rotary engine though, completely different from your standard 4 cylinder engine, and that's why they can get 240bhp out of a 1.3

Quite right, maybe that was a bad example. I was just making the point that these days faster cars do not necessarily have big engines.

Also, it has FSi tech. Ordinary 1.4 is MPi ;)

Nothing particularly wrong with the MPI, cheap to make and good on fuel.
Like the 1.4 TSI, the 2.0 Normally aspirated engine in the mk5 Golf also had FSI and it was still crap, it's the forced induction on both the 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI that's the only saving grace.
The 2.0 TFSI (now TSI) was marketed as having lean burn characteristics and low on emissions (the FSI bit) and excellent fuel economy. In my experience it doesn't actually run in stratified mode during normal driving and the fuel economy is dreadful. Still, good tuning potential though which for me is what it's all about!

Mines an MPi and its not particularly good on fuel. Got 430 miles from a full tank.
35mpg and im takin it easy. Very little town drivin aswel.........

Any word on confirmed release dates for the FR/Cupra/Bocanegra? I ask as I am currently trying to decide between a 1.6 CR-TDi Ibiza SC Sport 105BHP and an Alfa Romeo MiTo Veloce 1.4 120BHP, and I'd be using the scrappage scheme to get £2000 off the list price. Just now I am swinging towards the MiTo as it's a great little car and much nicer interior than the Ibiza, but I may rethink this if more powerful Ibiza'a are coming out. I wouldn't want the scrappage scheme to run out whilst waiting on a Bocanegra.

Bit of conflicting stuff at the mo, I think you will be safe on scrappage scheme til December to be honest, may be the odd demo car up for grabs then too :D
