Turbo Whistle problem??

Hi ! On my 12th lap of the nurburgring on 11th may (very wet) my turbo started to make a very loud whistling noise when coming on boost (2,000 rpm) it has never done this before. I've just drove it home today whistling happily away (640 miles) with no noticable loss in power or economy . I think there must be an air leek somewhere. Anyone any ideas?? Cheers.

Have the whistle on my VRS too since blasting around a track day but as you say no other problems. In my case I have a new hybrid garret turbo so i'm assuming it's a running in phase. My previous Golf TDI always had a bit off a whistle when accelerating and would assume this is quite normal.

i think alot of the pd 150s have that noise...mines always whistled

My hybrid phase 3 turbo (allards) has sounded like darth vader breathing through his mask for the last 55k miles but suddenly sounds like a sheep farmer whistling his dog, so something has changed. Just wondered where to start looking for the air leek. Cheers!

if its a new noise i'd be slightly worried myself. mine started to make the dreaded siren noise and it got louder. took it to a few places all of them said the turbo was on its way out.

the cars been off the road since (almost 3weeks now)

im not saying yours is on its way out, but if you can check the turbo it might be worth the hassle

Allards reckon its a gasket between the exhaust manifold and turbo so will look into it. Cheers! Tips for the ring. Read Ben lovejoys web site it covers everything! I've been going for 11 years and still love it. Be very very careful- you'll see what i mean! Have Fun!!

just to say, I've always noticed a slight whistle on spool up and kinda like it, quiet but there.
no loss of power or anything that i have noticed.

will worry if gets more noticeable

Booked into awsome gti next week to have a new gasket plus poly bushes while im there
