So 'tis the dreaded time of year.:help:

The exhaust has more orange holes than a Scottish erotica film.

Rear brakes are knackered

And low and behold she's just developed a monster oil leak.:cry:

Really the sump is soaked. No visible cracks and bizzarley the oil level seems fine. In fact allmy fluids are yet every time she's parked up I get a 6" puddle of black oil.

Any ideas of common leak areas?

As before it's a 1.6 T reg engine code ALM.

cant find any pics but there should be two bolts in your gearbox (not the ones holding it to the block). one bolt on the side (it should only be a couple of inches from the bottom) and one drain bolt (same as one in sump) on the bottom.

the bolt on the side is plugging the inspection hole.

basically when you open off the bolt on the side there will either be a miniature dipstik on the bolt or if not the gear oil should be at the level of the bottom of the hole (as in if you stick your finger in the hole you should feel it).

one of the problems with this is the car has to be level to check it correctly as in either on the ground or on 4 axle stands not jacked up.

and as for filling it either with a hose and funnel from the top or you can get gear oil in squeezy bottles with long nozzles from underneath.

a common place for the gearbox to leak is where the drive shaft exits the gearbox.

If it is this be careful it doesn't get to low or you could end up with a siezed gearbox.

and all motor shops sell gear oil it should only take a liter or two. don't use engine oil
