Cupra Tdi Turbo Boost Hose restriction ..

I was sorting out the seals on my 04 Leon Cupra Tdi last night & when i removed the one from the Turbo, I noticed the the aperture in the hose eye is not the full width of the hose itself, It is probably only 1 Inch in Diameter when the hose in nearer 2 Inches.
This has surely got to be a flow restrictor !! . But is probably built in by design for that reason !! ANybody running with full width hose ??

I wish i had taken a Pic, But it had gone dark & i was still lying on my drive under the car !!:doh:

If your on about this one, its pointless making that hole bigger, cause where this joins to the turbo, the inlet part on the turbo is only this big ;)

Not actually true Brad.
Its possible to remove the metal insert at the end of the hose, but the hose will need to be pulled tight and stretched over the compressor outlet. But doing this may increse the spool up time of the turbo. I cant say this will be definite.

To me it look likes the inlet bit of the compressor side is the same size as the hole on the hose, i wouldnt of thought cutting the end of the hose would make any difference :shrug: Anyone care to try it, experiment?

I think they made those size holes for a reason. Maybe to keep the pressure up...who knows. I know SFS made a boost hose without the restriction.

I am apprehensive about it - could kill the turbo. I will consult turbo tuning company and see what they think.

Yep, That's the fellow, The non standard hose hole looks Huge compared to the standard one ... :D

Fitting that should not break your turbo, If anything it should just boost a little more freely..

Great picture which shows you are right Brad.
In this respect there would not be a problem in removing the metal end of the pipe, dont know if its worth it though.

That metal part in there is a noise dampener, it reduces flow noise from turbo outlet.

Also its design smoothenes the flow from the small turbo outlet diameter into the turbo hose.

Removing it will not bring any benefit, unless you have a compressor housing with matching outlet diameter from turbo/turbo hose like the VNT20 per example.
