Ooh some nice speakers. Were they deferred until you could appreciate them post
exhaust?

Some piccies would be nice.

I only managed one rear speaker tonight, managed to snap 2 drill bits drilling the old rivet nuts out. DOH.

Shall do the other three 2mrw, and take pics as I go along. I was suprised how easy it is to do, removing the door cards was very easy now I have a proper door card removal tool.

Inbetween:-

Stage one, drill the old rivets out and yank speaker out.

Stage two, install the Autoleads: SAK-3103 16.5cm speaker adaptors.

I realy must get some new speakers in the summer.

Cheers damo, I can't believe how easy it is to change the speakers. The hardest bit was making a cup of tea at half-time. :)

Sounds much better now, plus my drivers door shouldnt leak in any water now I've removed all the bits of glass from blocking the drain holes inside the door.

Neuspeed ARB's up next I think :D

Can't believe that you had drill out rivets for the speakers. Seems a bit too permanent to me.

Deja vu on the old exhaust but you should be ashamed of all that muck. And get that salt off your car!! You can see the streaks on your rear bumper!!!

When was the last time it had a wash?

A detailing session is definately called for. Did the Seat last weekend :D

Very happy with those results, it tells me two important bits of info:

Millers oil does a bluumin good job! And the greencotton filter is doing a better job at filtering particles than the OEM paper filter.

XFE-PD would easily cover me another 5-10k if I wanted it to, both Calcium and Zinc levels are good and the Infa-red spectroscopy analysis shows no sign of oxidation or nitration, all additives are going strong.

I take it that was the first service after using the Millers PD oil?
Its good to see the inside of the doors aswell.
I plan to remove these for track stuff so good to get an idea of whats behind it.

I assume that you'll continue to run on the Millers XFE-PD oil based on your results. You appear to have every reason why you should.

However it would be interesting to see the results of another run of VAG's own PD oil in 10,000 miles. I assume that given the mileage of the engine you would anticipate a significant drop in mineral deposits from a use period of 8K - 18k to 18k - 28k as the engine beds in?

I do not know matters such as these and would rely on data from those in the game. This issue aside, it does look very good for the product though.

The benifit with Chris running Millers is that he know whats in the oil for a start so if these extra deposits are detected after the analysis then these are known to be extra, therefore deposits or wear.
I've had mine done too that how I know this

Does an engine not naturally wear particularly as it beds in? PD engines are renown to take a long time to finally bed in. Some say upto 60K!

Logic would suggest to me that until an engine finds its 'natural' state, alien deposits would be expected at higher levels at the beginning of its life.

Turning it on its head, I'm sure had the car run on Millers XFE-PD from say 1000 miles to 10k, there would be more alien deposits in the oil than from a period run on VAG PD oil from 10k to 19k.

As said earlier it would be interesting to see results from 28k to 38k on VAG PD oil. Despite the obvious infinate variables, I would have more comfort from the figures if these proved higher deposits than the 18k to 28k period on Millers. I would also not expect the results to be as high as the 18k sample (assuming this was also for a 10k stretch).

More evidence is required imo than just this alone.

I guess there is noway of a possible fair comparisson between two mediums as Husbandofstinky says.

How does one differenciate between essential wear (bedding-in) and wear caused by friction. This is how I see it:

Bedding-in wear is pretty much minimal on a new engine now anyway, the machinery is so precise nowadays the piston rings for example have very little high spots to wear down. The cams will wear in but this is done early on in an engines life.

I think all the bedding-in for a modern enigne is done pre 10,000miles. Anything after that will be natural wear from friction.

Thats my take on it, I'm no doubt completely wrong but hey ho. :)
