Interior Rebuild

It's been a long time coming, but today I was finally able to pull the various interior parts out of storage (in random boxes/garage roof/dining room/loft) and get them back into the car!

Only got a few pics as a fair proportion of the day was spent cleaning the interior out of dust, wiping windows down and hoovering seats/harnesses etc. As you can see, I have also refitted the floor plates/foot rest, using lots of sticky sealant (currently still setting - hence the bricks holding the aluminium in place!):

I have even refitted stuff like the first aid kit and cargo net (of which I am still very chuffed with, even one year on!):

In rebuilding the interior, I also completed all outstanding wiring tasks and properly fixed the rear pop-out windows in place.

My attention then turned to levelling out my suspension which had settled a fair bit on the passenger side, so needed raising to level the car out and help minimise the risk of rubbing when on lock. This was an absolute joy to do, the KW V1's really make adjustments easy.. I have never cleaned the threads on the coilovers, yet there was no corrosion and they simply wound up - no hassle whatsoever.

With the car levelled out, I'll get a 4 wheel alignment performed shortly. For the first time, the list of jobs left to do is looking rather short.. and it's a good job!

Not only does the car need to be ready for the CGTI day at Curborough on the 4th April, but it's off the the 'ring on the 9th April - and I have to say, after sitting back in the car today with the interior in place, I can't wait to get the lil one back on the road - I was reminded of just how much fun being behind the wheel of it is, and just how much of great time I had last year in it!

Rejuvenated Rear Bumper

Given the rubbish windy weather here today, I set about tidying up the rear bumper and spoiler - originally vinyl wrapped last year. After replacing a few bits of vinyl on the spoiler, it was time to bring the rear of the car more in-keeping with the front:

With that done, I took the car for a drive to ensure the coilover adjustments stayed put, before heading off to get a 4-wheel alignment done.

Upon my return I fixed the rear washer jet, fitted a new wiperblade and hooked up the bonnet sensor for the alarm

Back at work tomorrow, so it'll be a few days before the next update!

People have got 180-190.. I don't think I'd want to go above 150 given the abuse it gets!

Weekend Part 1: Brake Ducting

For those of you familiar with my previous SEAT Ibiza PD130, you may remember the patented ShitPipe EVO II Technology - where you can tune it, if you B&Q it... Well, this time, rather than interior plumbing, I selected some components from B&Q's exterior plumbing range.

Last years attempt at brake ducting proved expensive and not overly successful as the piping kept dislodging and even helped to ruin a CV boot.. Therefore this year I decided to go for a more solid approach. Starting with the tricky side, where there's little room between the wheel on full lock and the cambelt and pulley's; I once again made use of the heat gun to flatten and shape the piping to provide adequate clearance. I drilled holes in the upper part of the piping so that it would nicely slot over the various threads on the underside of the chassis leg, before fixing in place with sturdy cable ties.. it doesn't move an inch - which is a good thing given what it's next to!

The passenger side was an altogether easier task, using the same method it was done in 10 minutes:

The jury's out on whether such ducting actually does anything, but the theory of getting some cool air into the centre of the wheel behind the disc exists anyway

I then simply got on with a few other outstanding tasks, making a fixing for the spare wheel in the well (chunkier tyres mean the standard fixing doesn't work), fitting the fire extinguisher and setting all tyre pressures correctly.

With all major modding complete, everything back fitted to the car and the first trackday of the year almost upon me, the lil Arosa is pretty much ready for a year of 'Ringing. It was time to treat the lil one to a bucket of water and a sponge!
