Valuations

I've actually done a search for this but can't come across much information that answers my questions.

I have done a valuation of a car that i am currently interested in getting. Its fully standard "Y" reg, Ibiza Cupra 1.8T 20v in Onvi Yellow with 46k on the clock. Now "Whatcar.co.uk" claim its worth around the £2900 mark but the bloke has it for sale for £3850. Is this overpriced? Now obviously i'd be able to haggle this price and hopefully get it down quite a bit!

I was wondering how much you think its worth, its in really good condition. Here's the details:

"46,000 miles, 2001 Seat Ibiza 1.8 20V T - 3 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 46,000 miles, Yellow. ABS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels (Just been fully restored), White Cupra Dials, On-Board Computer, Drivers airbag, Passenger Airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Head restraints, Folding rear seats, Immobiliser, Remote Central locking, Radio/Cassette, Multi-Disk CD Changer, Rear headrests, Sports seats with Half Leather, Traction control, Full Seat Service History. This is an excellent example of the Seat Ibiza Cupra, the bodywork and interior are in extremely good condition, with such low miles this car still looks and drives like new. Very well maintained with all Seat documents & booklets, Will have a full valet before sale, 2 keys, 2 previous owners from new. 11 Months MOT, 6 Months Tax. Call:. £3,850."

imo thats a good price
is it a garage you are buying from?
if so you will probably get a short warranty!
make sure all the history is correct and not just a stamped book!
sounds good though!
good luck!

Its from a family trader, so like a hobby business! Been speaking to the guy and it seems legit. All the history from when it was bought! 2 prev owners, 1 old woman from new and an old man for the past 5 years! Proves it with the British heart foundation sticker!

I was looking on parkers.com when was looking for my cupra and they recon around the £3200-£3700 mark depending on the mileage. So based on that and with the MOT and you escape the tax band on 2001 reg

I would say it about right, check the body work though if its Ovni and also most of what he lists are standard Cupra spec...

I'd go in for the £3500 mark i think, you sneak into the cheaper car tax as well as I'm pretty sure that's just before the cut off date for the new bands ;)

That was the price range i was looking at to be honest, fingers crossed ah!

Cheers Kyle, and im pleased to find out about the tax band too :D The body work seems spot on, i've had high res pictures sent through and i'll be going to check it out so should be all good.

Oh, and i know its the standard spec...i just posted up what was said so people could see everything :p

Sounds like a good buy to me but defo check that paint just to be 100% sure, check for rust around the rear window seals and on the top mounts in the engine bay, a little can be fixed by to much and might be worth skipping.

good luck

I think £3500 would be a good purchase

Isn't the parkers guide, whatcar etc priced at the bottom book price for the car ie: The amount you would get on a trade in from a garage? Basically so they can turn it around and make a profit on it? And these prices would only take into consideration 'standard' cars. Each car sold privately would be priced depending on condition, mileage, history mods etc. Also the location - where there is more of them the price is lower but if few around locally the price would be a bit higher as they are harder to come buy, like Scotland compaired to say London!

I personally would use these as a guide only and in my opinion you get exactly what you pay for. You may have to pay more for a better overall car.

The above example looks good for the price especially with such a low mileage. I would buy it a that price if it was me and I didn't already have one. :D

A while ago I found a link to Glass' guide (PM me for the link)

It might be worth plugging in and seeing what it comes out with?? I know when I bought my Leon recently it was about right for the trade and Part Ex figures... IIRC glasses tend to be slightly lower than Parkers... IMHO

In some respects the more in your back pocket the more you can spend on "toys". If they're a smaller dealer they are less likely to be flexible in the price, so the haggle could be hard. Is it local you could always walk away and think about it!

Cough, just thought I'd plug in the details and it's come out with the following (might be worth checking the exact spec!).

Excellent condition £2350
Average condition £2090
Below average condition £1830
Retail £3420
Cost new £12815

Depending on what extra the guy will throw in I would try and get the price lower? I must admit I got very little off the price of my leon but got a good price on the Part Ex.

Good luck!

there are certain cars that, the 'book price' doesnt come into it, yes i understand they count for the first 3-5 years of its life when it will change hands the most and is with the most

again these price are a guide any car can have different problems and conitions when they get to the age they are now,

i would personally say if its buying from a dealer you can find one cheaper else where, because he needs too make money on it so why pay him when you could find a private one for less,

i would personally say the ibiza is always going to be worth more than the book price allows so if you can buy from a dealer with warrenty etc for the right money and you couldnt buy one private for less your onto a winner

I must admit one of my first cars was a 1973 MG BGT, i got it when it was 33 yrs old so the value was based on how little rust was on it, the fact that it had a new engine and a pretty bolts up re-build 3 yrs before I got it. At the end of the day a car is worth what someone will pay for it!

They aint worth anywhere near as much as people are asking, why you think theres soo many sfor sale all the time
