Electric window help

Hi all.

Ive just got a seat toledo 1997 tdi but the electric windows are not working.
Has anybody got a fuse/relay layout for this model or the relay and fuse position numbers, any help appreciated cheers

p.s is there an eletric window controller or is it just run from the ecu ect

Congratualtions on your Tolly - hope its not a bucket of rust (as mine turned out to be after a couple of years!).
The fuse for the electric windows is located on the fuse/relay panel under the dash (remove the parcel shelf on the drivers side - one plastic toggle you turn 90 degrees at each end). this reveals the main row of fuses. The one for the windows (yellow, 25 amp) is way above them (and the relays) just above a small buzzer. If you still have the original fuse extractor you can manoever the fuse out by prising out the headlamp switch and peering threough the hole with a torch. the fuse extractor is needed to get a new fuse back in again - use a bit of bluetack to hold it in place.

The only ECU on this car is for the engine. Everything else is by relays.

The windows are linked through a black box fitted under the carpet under the front edge of the rear seat. I havn't yet been able to find a circuit diagram for it but it seems to use relay logic.

While your fiddling with the car, get it up on a ramp and check the condition of the door sills and adjacent floor area. Mine rotted through after I'd had it a couple of years. Seems the '97 was the worst year for this. I've plated mine over now using a MIG and some strong steel. Should outlast the rest of the car.

Cheers NiSk, it was the fuse i couldn`t find - spot on info.
There was a short in the n/s door loom causing the short, all fixed now :)
The floor/sills seem ok, well say ok... it has a few patches lol

Well thats really wierd, I had exactly the same problem with mine - short in r.h. front door harness - locks opening and closing all the time, windows going up and down on their own .....

Seems like it might be a typical mk 1 fault!

It`s an old.. motor plus i dont mind tinkering :)
Previous owner messing/probbing the loom was the cause of mine it`s all solderd and wrapped back up snug again now.
Ive still gotta get a new central locking unit, mines borked, i guess ill just have a mooch for a unit from a golf. I couldn`t find a mk1 toledo in any of my scrap yards in brum. these things are like Rocking horse s**t :) as long as it`s a 3 pin unit -/+/- Switched ! ill make it fit :)
I would say more over that the door loom plugs are most likely to cause problems as with most door looms.

I think you'll find that a pump/logic unit from a Vento/(Jetta?) is identical with the Toledo. The odd thing is how everything (interior lights, windows and central locking) seems to go through that black box under the rear seat. I havn't pried it apart yet but I looks like its a primitive form of relay logic - if only I could get my hands on a wiring diagram for it ......

Yeah same thing here with the diagrams... a asked a friend that used to work on seat`s he said that from 99 onwards he has diagrams on disk but not for mine it`s too old, typical :) think ill take a trip to the library this week and post some pics up of all the essential wiring diagrams.
On the relay box under the rear n/s seat mine seems to stick now and again. i dont think i`ll be opening mine till it stops working. yes the central locking routes via that as well :)

Hi mate i had the same problem as the guy who posted the original query. I tried finding the 25 amp yellow fuse you mentioned but could only find a 20 amp yellow fuse which was in working order (not blown).

I have a 1994 1.9 tdi seat toledo, is this one slighty different to the 1997? If so have you got any more ideas.
