after completing 60k miles from new ive just changed the front pads - pretty dam good i reckon there was a few more thousand miles in em too i reckon, but didnt want to risk it. anyhow easy as pie to change - original pads were ferodo but ive replaced with EBC ultimax - cheap enough. to early to tell if theyre any better. the surface area is somewhat smaller than the ferodos so i expect them not to last another 60k. front discs are still good

the rear discs are totally gone however, why do they wear so badly? and is it worth replacing with expensive rear discs or will a similar wear pattern emerge?

im also considering doing an audi tt brake change in near future, budget allowing.

You wouldn't really notice any difference upgrading the rear discs as they don't do much work. Out of the front and rear pads and discs they are probably the last thing worth upgrading.

The rear discs are unvented and thinner to start with compared to the fronts. I think the wear limit is 22mm (25mm when new), are you able to check the current thickness with a gauge?

i was just confused as to the high wear rate of the rear discs compared with the rest of the braking system.

ill have a measure over the weekend.

Sounds like he has had the car from new so they may not have been changed. Not sure tho..I just realised I quoted the wear limit for the fronts, not the rear :). It is 7mm (9mm when new). So quite thin even when new...the lip of rust around the outside can give a false idea of how thick the disc should be.

i've got just under 2 years warranty left on my FR and gonna start looking at grooved front discs as the standard ones just feel mushy...also because i shall be getting a remap possibly this year  been searching around and lots of different ones mentioned but most talk about changing calipers & carriers

i just want straight disc swap which should be fine for stage 1, any recommendations guys?
