Idle speed?

Hi guys, my arose is idling at around 1,100 rpm at standstill, I believe this to be far to high but cant see anywhere in the owners manual stating what it should be :confused:

Can anyone help?

That depends... What colour is your car?

Oh, and things like age, engine size and fuel type would be helpful too... :p

1100rpm on tickover sounds a bit quick for anything tho... I think mine sits just under the 1k.
('98 1.0 litre and it's green!)

Hi mate, mine is black :D

It is a 1998, 1.0 and petrol.

What you think mate? every car I have ever had sits at 7-800 rpm but then my father did mention that his focus diesel sits at 1,000 and every car is different...

Mine is also a 1998 1.0 petrol (in red though ;)) and sits between 700 and 1000 rpm on idle. It sits at the higher speed when it's cold outside and the engine still needs to warm up.

So 1100rpm does sound a bit high

Yeah had a feeling it was too high. Going to try a garage I know that are well respected for doing a good job, just a shame they cant fit me in until week monday :rolleyes: going to be worth the wait I think thou...

Well quick update guys :)

Driving really nice now, but the idling issue is still there but what seems to happen is when coming to a stop and rolling (if not using gears) the idle speed is up to 1,400 rpm but when the car finally comes to a stop the idle speed goes down to 800 rpm.

Bit lost really why it is doing it. So basically if I removed the foot of the break and the speed of car when slightly up (i.e. 5-10 mph) the idle speed goes up to 1,400 rpm despite the fact my foot is not on accelerator. But then if I break to go back down to 0 mph the idle speed goes to 800 rpm.

Anyone advise?

just seems wierd when you brake it's taking vacuum away for the servo but when foot off brake goes higher suggests it's getting too much air standard (leak) and the ecu is managing to compensate

The car is booked in to a garage week monday so will mention what you have said mate, hopefully it will go some way into sorting out the problem :)
