Rover... broken down... Head gasket would be any AA/RAC/Green Flag mechanic's first port of call...

Tell me about it, head gasget went, airbag warning light would never go off, had an electrical fault meaning my car looked like pub disco lights when I unlocked it using the key fob, starter motor went, radiator bust, leaking boot leaving a puddle around the spare wheel, having the heaters on made the radio switch off......:censored:

The old rover 220 twin cam K-series engines had a design flaw and the week point was always the head gaskets blowing. I don't know why lotus chose the engine for the elise. My dad was a rover mechanic for nearly 20 years and was always changing the damn things. I've owned two rovers (diesels) and had nothing but trouble

broken alternator
broken starter motor
split boost pipe
drive shaft popped out of gearbox and broke
disintegrated clutch plate
host of electrical problems (locks, windows)

all within the space of a year or two.

First of all i had an MG ZR, the head gasket went which cost me £500. Secondly, i then had a Rover 416, the head gasket went which cost me a further £500. All within the space of two month, Rover = quality

going back to basics
a quick update on this... i've done what some of you lot said and the results are pretty damn good!!!:funk:
i've removed the sound deadening from under the bonnet and took the cover off the dynatwist air filter to leave it open and re-routed the cold air feed pipe, you can now hear the turbo and 007p from outside and with the windows open more but from inside with widows up and everything turned off it sounds like an atmos dump valve and a really nice turbo whistle/scream:thumbup:

oh and i've just used about a weeks worth of petrol 'trying it out' and the missus will probably kill me when she gets in cos the hallway is now home to some sound deadening:whistle::help:
