Front Badge modification...complete

Decided over the weekend to try a few new things for the badges, as i have gloss black wheels i thought id try something black and also red to match with the red badges, r badges and brembo calipers. This is what i have come up with.. i am also going to do the rear, (inprogress..)

i am not too sure if i like it 100% so id like to know what you think and what other colours you think would look good as i might just get another one and do a few colour designs.

A new complete from grill, badge and surround complete was £19 was dealers trade. i went for this so i could make sure i made a neat job and it wasnt that pricey..

the badge seperates easy, its easy to remove the front grill from the car litterly just pulls out with a little wiggling and moving.

then the surround unclips out using some screwdrivers behind to help it on its way but carefully.

the slats in the badge are held on from behind the S badge and have two prongs sticking through with glue or plastic weld. just run a blade or screw driver over these to get the glue off and then push the S badge out through the rear, make sure the welds/glue are totally removed from the prongs or it will snap them off.

make sure you sand it down with some roughish stuff not like 80 grit but 400, 600 to make sure its keyed to take to the plastic primer wel enough as it doesnt like sticking.

give the primer a quick flat off with 1500 or 1200 grit. use whatever colour and leave a while then lacquer.

leave the paint to harden if possible for a few days, as when you refit the badge and push it into the slats it can ( if the paint is still soft) scratch it the best thing to do if use some water and washing up liquid or something slippy so it slides over better.

the rear badge is a little trickier , remove the rear boot panel, boot lock 3 8mm. the badge slats have to be cut at one end to remove them from the badge and then slide out at either end.

they both took a while to get right and make sure the finish was good with no bits, used a halogen heater at work to keep it nice and warm

im sorry, but i dunno why people do this to the S badge...its like saying i drive a SEAT but im not advertising the fact...your workmanship looks spot on dude as you have a nice finish, but im not for it...

i know what you mean but whatever colour the badge its still there, just wanted to make it different and more matching with the car theme.

say if the car came like that from the factory as some come with black wheels, different options, cant rule out that this could sometime be an option or standard on some different spec model cars.

say if the badge already came black, people would want it chrome, its always the way.

I admire bravery! It would take some courage for me to do that! Seems like fortune does favour it though. That looks really good!
Subtle changes are what count, but i'd personally take a less striking colour than red.

Knowing my luck it would look rubbish if i tried though. lol
I'd have a back-up 'default' ready to quickly put on before anyone saw it though.
That is if i do copy you of course.

i used seat flash red, i didnt actually plan to get another seat colour but i was looking through all the reds in halfords and i just knew that red was a really good nice red from remembering what it looked like, so thought why not go for that also being a seat colour makes it a bonus lol. i agree maybe its a bit striking but it sort of suits it when you see the whole car having black wheels with the red calipers behind also red badges R on boot, wings, seats etc.
