what to look for when buying a mk3?

will be purchasing a mk3 ibiza cupra in the next few weeks, just gota sell my astra coupe turbo first. the astra great fun at 302bhp but just after sumthi nbit smaller n better mpg,

is there any problems that the cupra's have? i.e major 1's to make sure have been done b4 buying etc.

i know there was a re-call when they 1st came out on the coils but that was years ago.

realiability? cost of parts?

im a mechanic so working on it not a problem, just dont no a great deal about them and what i need to look for when buying?

any advice cheers

better mpg!!! dont buy a cupra hehe! nothing really stands out, water pumps fail if its not the uprated metal one! just silly little things go wrong like maffs,coil pack and n75,s! ive had 3 cupra,s an have had 1 maff fail 1 coil and 2 n75,s!

cheers for that, these r the kinda fings i need to no,lol.
mya stra 302bhp and 348lbft torque, gets 20mpg driving sensible haha. 7mpg on full boost hammering it,lol. better be better mpg than tht! lol.

my bro had 1 few years ago and always liked them, he sed was great fun car.

after 1 with decent breather mods, exhaust, induction kit, dump valve and ideally a re-map
dnt really want 1 runnin less than 200bhp, quite fussy. haha

shud i luk for 1's with around 70k and less?

i no these engines are quite reliable, internal wise, we get loads of the 1.8t's through work with 120, 140k stil runnin.

Engines are fairly bulletproof as you said, so you can run up to about 320bhp on standard internals, anything higher and rods need doing, you won't have a problem finding one over 200bhp as the standard turbo with mods can push around 230 so the majority are running in the 200's to 280 I'd say

Really sit and examine the electrics, especially the combination centre console with the BIG LCD display.

check the windows work properly and also any rust around the rear window where water can build up and rust.

Also for little rattles and sqeeks from the interior, I get a new one each day i drive it lol

Meh, Who needs an interior anyways! Rip it all out will sort the problem

Nothing to major but check to see if the clutch pedal has been welded as they often break on the weld.. if not get it done once you get the car

230hp standard turbo? you know thats not true! 210 at a push!

its not cheep to get big power from them so if your looking for a car with 230/240hp then buy a car with the ko3s already fitted dont a buy standard car, or if thats not good enuff then there is a few ihi cupras for sale will save you lots and lots all the little bits add up!

If your going to buy one of a member on here make sure its someone thats been on here awhile as theres alot of people that come on here once they've bought one then realise its not the car fro them so sell straight away. A longer serving member is more likely to know about the car so can give you the low down.

you what? just because thay have realised its not te car for them dont mean its a bad car! they could be selling it for many reasons, like they lost there job (as many people are) and they cant afford to run it,idnt realise it would be that bad on fuel ect ect things happen in peoples lives and it means they have to sell so to say make sure they have owned it for a while is rubbish imo! dealerships dont have the cars for long thay dont even drive them should people not buy from them because they dont know everything about the car?

as long as its clear the car is in good shape has the service history ect all belts been done thats all you need and all you can look for the rest you take a chance with as your buying a older car! this all depends on wat you want to spend as with ibiza,s you now get wat you pay for!

With the amont of chavs coming on here now that lets face it aint got a clue about these cars or how to drive um', they just buy it, break it an sell it. So to say that i wouldnt personally trust someone whos been here 5 minutes isnt unjust is it. Like i said it was only my opinion which is what this threads asking for.

i think we should apply the same rule to some of the threads that are started these days, dont even entertain stupid threads that are started by chavs that cant be bothered to search or spell,explain things properly!
