maybe try locking it with the key,
take the door card off and have a look for connection bars loose.
lock from the inside to see if there is any noise on that door for motors working in the door.

few ideas.

Id guess it could maybe be a fault with the central locking actuator on the drivers door lock. When you lock it with the key and unlock with the remote does the drivers door unlock?

ok is there a way to check/fix it? thank you so much for your help

I'm not sure if they come as a seperate actuator or whether its integral to the lock but if its broke then it will need replacing. It's possible its not that but to me it seems the only logical thing before getting into the realm of weird faults.

if you can get at the plug on it and find out what pins it is for the actuator you could check the signal, a lot to try though. If i was you i'd get a door lock/actuator, get into the door and just plug the new one onto the wiring loom as a test, operate the locking, if it locks then bingo.

I had a very similar sounding problem just before christmas - use advanced search on my name and you will find it. If you tap the door around the handle will it start working(lock with button)/does it look sometimes but not others? If it does could be the door control module - basically there prone to letting water in and the solder cracks on the circuit so pressing the button doesnt get the signal from the module to the lock. Its a £92 quid part from your main dealers and £180 ish if you want it done by a dealer. I did mine myself took 1-2 hours being cautious and wasnt overly difficult bar droping the lock retainer(see the thread i mentioned searching) which was a half hour in itself. Any questions feel free to PM me.
