hi guys !

ik have a question for u guys.

i have some really (what i think) long turbo lag..

when i hold my car in about 2200RPM en i put the pedal to the metal it takes about 1 or 2 seconds before it really starts to pull. so it takes till 3000rpm it realy goes into full boost it seems

is there anyway to reduce that ? sometimes it looks like it take ages before its going full boost....

and........

that seems about normal to me. I don't think K04 turbo's don't spool up particularly well much under 3,000rpm which is why although a turbo is good, if you are caught in the wrong rev range you can be nailed by something slower until you get the turbo going again.

Diesels have a better time with this as they pick up around 1750rpm (but then run out of revs sooner).

Just the nature of the beast I'd be inclined to say, but until you read for fault codes or do some logging it is impossible to say otherwise.

That's not lag.
What you're talking about is the time it takes the turbo to spool. Different thing. :)

I had an issue on my 2003 LCR where occasionally if the temp dropped below 5 degrees centigrade it would go into limp mode for no apparent reason. Software issue which I thought only affected UK cars, but maybe other moderate climate european cars too.

If I stopped the car, recylced the ignition it would usually resolve the issue (don't recycle the ignition on the fly for god sake - memories of that bloke with the dog avatar come back to me).

Do you have a VW specialist who you can go and take the car too as they tend to be better at issue resolution than dealer group who tend to 'replace bits that are broken'

No, i dont have a VW specialist.. unfortunatly

but my car also has guarantee till june with that dealer...

so ill just bring it over everytime something is broken they replace it and i dont have to buy anything...

When it happened to mine the BHP/PS figures dropped to around 150, so it was a significant issue. I once went to overtake a clio on a single track country road and it just didn't pull. Can be quite offputting as it was intermittent issue. Only happened when it was cold though so I used to test for it.

yeah i went to the dyno to test my car..

it just happend to be that when i was driving over there mty car was in LIMP mode :D

so whent on the dyno in limp and normal

LIMP : 157.7 HP 233Nm @ 3008 RPM
Normal : 212.9 HP 280Nm @ 3170 RPM

so yeah it sucks in limp....

but i only start to notice when on motorway ! i dont try to boost when engine is cold....

If you get the car Revo'd it fixes the limp mode issue - 2 for the price of 1

what do u mean by getting it revo'd ?
REVO is a remapping company.
Have you replaced anything in your engine bay?
This could be your Turbo Intake Pipe (TIP)collapsing, THS and Forge do good ones.
What do you have for your induction? Standard air box or aftermarket?
Have you had your Dump Valve changed for an aftermarket one?

If none of these things have been checked and or changed I would do this before going any further.

Most likely at work

so thats why i almost lost to a diesel passat!! :O he took off before me leaving a rediculous space (wheelspin anyone?),and i eventually caught up with him and left him..

(in a closed estate of course)

No i have not replaced any of those thing u said.

i am waiting for my guarantee to go over it wil be gone in june !

because i have the forge TIP and Forge 007 DV already here...
thinking about taking the jabba induction kit also (any recomendations)

and the dealer that i bought my car from said it was already chipped (remapped)

because i have 1 document of ABT tuning package in service booklet. and also there is a sticker on the inside of my fuel cap... (to fuel 98 octane fuel)

but the dyno showed my car only has 212 BHP so ?? is there anything that could eat those 40 or so horses off my car ????

does the EGT sensor also cause LIMP mode to be activated ? and does it trigger a fault code ? because the fault codes i have are :

16395 P0020 -A- Camshaft Pos. Actuator Circ. Bank 2 Malfunction

17705 P1297 Connection turbocharger - throttle valve pressure hose

BTW: i remember that the dealer replaced a sensor in the exhaust pipe after the turbo that reads temperature ! i dont know if this is the EGT Sensor ??

On mine the car didn't go into limp mode. I noticed a huge drop in performance and fuel consumption sat at 20mpg on the trip computer which I normally average around 32-35mpg. The gases from the exhaust also was slightly smokey and smelt of petrol.
