TDI 110 Starting Problems

IVE HAD A STARTING PROBLEM WITH THE TDI FOPR A WHILE, its had a service done recently and ive also brought new glow plugs from seat, cost a bomb. still doersnt tick over first time.
it normally happens in the mornings, the revs go up and down for a while until the engines warm. i think there might be some air leaking over night.

dont know what it is? and im getting a remap soon, so maybe they can bring something up on the diagnostic machine then?:cry:

ive had a tdi chip put in and i think that must of played up, some how.

hope some can work there magic of knowledge at this

did you find out what was causing the problem with your car? mine's doing it and I am finding it hard to find people who have sorted it...

Apparently garages normally just check if there is a code wrong and not bother checking the settings.

After some painstakingly long research, it appears this could be a poorly set up injection timing system.

Have you had your belts changed lately? I had mine replaced because the cam wore through the tappet and I needed a new head and had the belts replaced then.

Suggestions are: get them to use the vag-com and check if the timing is correct. oh, and get the temp sensor checked too. apparently if it's reading wrong it doesn't produce a code but it can tell the ecu the engine is warm when it isn't!

Got this with mine. Its going in to seat on thursday. Ill let you know!

Just checking in. What did the garage say? I have found out mine is a PD engine. This means you cannot change the timing without adjusting the ECU. Plus, the timing (according to the vag-com scan) is well within spec.

Is your car on it's way to getting sorted?

What was wrong with your car? Mine is going in next Friday (13th, but the car is pure evil, maybe it might be poetic), and I would like to find out if the info you found out could help me.

TBH i forgot about the thread. They keot it for a few days and the wife had to collect. She asked and they said they replased the glow plugs and some sensors.
Less attitude may have got a quicker responce

I'm sorry, I must have got the wrong impression about this site. I thought it was full of adults who wanted to help each other. I feel I have tried to help you as much as I could by telling you all the things that I had checked and replaced. I did this so when your car went in to a garage and if they could not find the fault, or were going to unnecessarily spend money, I could have stopped this from happening.

As my car is going through the same problems I thought it would have been decent of you to inform me of the problem with your car. Instead I feel I have been given 'attitude' and 'insults'. But I am glad your car is fixed.

I wonder if anyone can help me, the car runs excellent, it's just on start up on cold mornings the engine splutters for a second or two, sounds quite ruff and then runs normally, any ideas?

First things to check on a diesel is the glow plugs and the coolant temperature sensor. Making sure of course that the glow plugs come on for the right amount of time. Also check the glow plugs relay.

If these are all fine, then you might need to get your timing checked. Best bet is a vag-com, but I bought one of them and it didn't help me a bit apart from to prove that the timing was within spec.

If none of these help, you will be in the same boat as me. If you find out what is wrong can you let me know. Thanks.

mine does this, im thinking that the glow plugs are coming to the end of the road... only does it when cold so i can live with it for now

glow plugs were only changed by myself 2 weeks ago lol, where abouts is the coolant temp sensor, i might change that and see if it cures it

Glow plugs, coolent sensor, fuel filter and fuel filter housing and its been fine. Seat said that these engines can be rough to start when cold and not too worry as long as it cleares within a few seconds (5 secs)
they did an oil flush and change as well.

how much did you pay for your plugs if you dont mind me asking, spoke to somebody over the weekend who said they were extortionate

anybody know the part number for the coolant temperature sensor for a tdi 110 asv engine
