The wife rang me today & said that rear screen shattered on the Leon!:-o

It was parked up on the in-laws' drive. Not sure if someone or something had been thrown into the screen. I went have a look at it after work, and it was mess. Seems as though it had gone down the bottom near the wiper spindle.
Phoned the Autoglass helpine (arranged through insurance) & arranged to get it replaced whilst I was at work tomorrow. Five minutes later they rang me back saying they could do it tonight (8pm) if I could take down to the local depot.

It's all done now. They cleaned up the boot, parcel shelf & even inside the boot trim.
Nice one!:)

A guy at my work also has a leon and he was driving up the m40 about 3 weeks back. A stone must have clipped the corner of the rear screen and shattered the lot, was a right mess.

A few weeks ago, a lad at work closed his drivers door & the rear screen shattered.

I think the screen must have a weak point somewhere, or the air pressure in the cabin must be sufficient to shatter the glass.

I've seen it happen, I was sat in a car park and a Mondeo hatch taxi was picking up passengers, they got in and slammed the door and the rear screen fell in! The driver got out ready to fight whoever had just smashed his window then realised there was no one there.

Weird

interesting.

im sure there have been other incidents of this nature...

Yep mine went on Tuesday while I was driving. Made a hell of a bang.
No potholes, no flats nearby, no bridge, no cars travelling behind or just passed in opposite direction.
Heated rear screen was on to clear frost.
Fixed now but tailgate won't open.
As I said weird.

digging out old topic, woke up today morning to find a hammer on my back seat and rear window shattered.... Neighbours car had a front windscreen smashed...

I cannot even describe what would I do to a lifeless t*at who did this.

Called insurance, arranged replacement and went to autoglass garage to have it fitted. It was scheduled for tomorrow but they managed to squize me in today as someone didn't show up.

Now my question is, I was told that rear windscreen claim does not affect my NCB but I'm wondering if I made a mistake by saying that it was damaged by some one rather than just saying it was smashed. Basically if it was recoded as vandalism, do I need to mention it when I'm asked for previous claims when I go somewhere else to renew?

I read mixed opinions, some say that there is no need to let new insurer know as it was just a windscreen, others say that as it was a claim in the end of the day I would need to tell about it.

Some ******* threw a brick through my mums windscreen last weekend in town. It was between 9 and 10 at night, she'd parked it on a well-lit car park, nipped into a place with my sister, come out to find screen smashed in and a brick on the bonnet. Police called but you could tell they didn't wanna know! I'd love to get hold of the *******s!!! :)

you just claiming for glass mate , they will ask if its vandalism , so just say no it was like that when you returned to the car.

Yep happened to my 55 plate on the way to work last year, wasnt a particularly cold day, no bumps, no stones, no other people or cars anywhere near me.

An almighty bang and then there was no rear window, unfortunatley for me, had no glass cover on insurance....£400 odd quid for new tinted rear glass...

Another one,

My rear windscreen shattered on Saturday for no apparent reason.

No vandilism or anthything, it seems to of happened when closing either door or the boot.

I am insured by Aviva who use Autowindscreens for glass claims, called them up and dropped the car off at 1700 on saturday night and picked the car up at 0930 the next day. Five star service from them considering they had to go 30 miles each way from Stirling to Glasgow and back to get the glass.

Pretty strange at the amount of instances of theese windscreens shattering, suppose I cant realy complain as the car is 4 years old and I aint had any real bother with it.

hi there,

this has happened to me this morning for the 5th time in 3 years and it is starting to do my head in now especially as i have to pay for the excess and the rear spolier to be refitted after wards the replacement glass has been done. £100 a time.

this morning i basically opened the car sat in the drivers seat and closed the door behind me and bang went the rear screen- had not put the keys in the ignition or nothing.

seat blame the replacement glass company in this instance Autoglass - typical Autoglass blame seat.

can anyone help-?:(

I think there are a couple of vents in the boot behind the bumper, may be they are blocked. Just a thought.
