I would whip the plugs out and just check them pal. Mine did this and all three had failed at the same time at 76,000 miles. Still started fime though.

Gavin the resistance will change according to the temp of the plug and readiness shows a failure when cold. The check light will come on after a certain number of starts, particularly when starting from cold, so when I had a problem with the plugs I get in and out of my car up to 8 times a day then my light came on pretty quickly after erasing the code. Dave will sort if you are going to DSB and you know it will not cost you too much when he is doing it!

I've put this on a few threads but no answer back. Please help. I drive a 2004 Leon Cupra TDI 150. In the process of changing the glow plugs. Does anybody have either the Seat part number or BOSCH part number for the glow plugs? I want to make sure the ones I have are correct before putting them in as I don't want any piston contact. The current ones fitted in my car are Denso and probably incorrect/aftermarket and are 5mm shorter than the BOSCH item.

Check with Seat as there are 2 types fitted to an 04 cupra, one with pre heater and one without. If the ones that you have are shorter than the ones taken out then they cant contact the pistons can they!

When i spoke to the quite unhelpful parts guy at Seat, he said they were what they put them in all the Seat models. I wasn't too sure the guy knew what he was talking about.
By the way, the ones fitted in the car now, the Denso ones, are roughly 5mm shorter than the new BOSCH ones.

Mine came from the factory with Beru plugs. I have an 04 tdi cupra leon.
Go to vw and I am sure they will match up what you have with the correct ones. They should be able to access the same info as Seat can through their parts system

guys i think im having the re-occuring wire issue, i had the engine cover off on the weekend to try and look at the glow plugs but not being an expert i didnt know which they were.....can someone take a photo and just show me...

last time it was in the garage for this they simply cleaned off the plugs and connections and it was fine for 6 months...not the lights come on again and after vagcom was put on it indicated glow plug 4 failure again...

so a pic would be good so i can whip them off, clean it up and clear the code again

:)

some may say lala land....
i did asearch for the rror code on google and found apic of where they are - it also recommended doing all four as it can say 4 is at fault when it is 2 for example

Good link, I tried this yesterday morning & came to the conclusion I have a dodgy bridge, couldn't find the Deoxit D50 the article talks about but tried Servisol 10 from Maplin (£4), will see if this works as glowplug no.4 intermitent fault coming on weekly now!! (cold weather means plugs are heated every start increasing fault count??)

Right, I got in contact with Seat, There are two types of glow plug fitted to a 2004 Leon Cupra. BOSCH and BERU. I have had a check and they are both 97mm in length, have an element length of 29mm. A thread size of M10x1.00. I obviously have aftermarket poo fitted in mine so can now change them. If anybody needs the part numbers they are as follows:
BOSCH - N 105 792 01 or BOSCH No. 0 250 202 046
BERU - N 105 792 02 or BERU No. GN046
Simple. Both are the same length as stated and both are 11V, 16Amps.
Took some time but I got there in the end.

I replaced mine last year with BERU ones, 3 old ones were BERU, fourth one wasn't and had a shorter element than the others, kept them for spares.

I got round to changing the glow plugs finally. Went to put the BOSCH items I got from Seat in, cyl. 1 fine, cyl. 2+3, wouldn't wind in all the way, cyl. 4 fine. My conclusion was that pistons 2+3 were at TDC so the plugs wouldn't wind in. Whipped them all out, went and bought a set of BERU GN855 from Euro Car Parts which are 5mm shorter than the GN046 item. All wound in fine, car started fine, no funny noises so all good.
Now I need to prove my engine requires the shorter glow plugs so I can get my £49.40 back for the longer ones, unless anyone wants to buy them.
