Well the filters been in a week and there is definately an improvement, much smoother and feels like the turbo is spooling a bit sooner. Seems like theres more noise now aswel, did many other people get this? Not so much a different engine note but more noice from the turbo i suppose is the best way to describe it.

Bill's service was excellent also, ordered it on tuesday evening and it turned up thursday morning!

Now my only problem is i want to do more to it now....

Throttle body cleaner, about £4. get rid of all the black crud that may have got back in to the throttle body when the engine was over fuelling.

also some fuel cleaner, stp is excellent, about £15, or ive tried red line s-2 which is very good.

Is cleaning the throttle body a difficult task, im great as taking things appart but when it comes to putting them back together i quickly loose patience. Plus I dont want to break anything on the throttle body.

Would have thought the fuel cleaner wouldnt have really made a difference if the fuel is constantly being run through anyway?

Fuel isn't air is, the fuel is injected ;)

What i meant is the egr valve recirculates some exhaust gas through the throttle body. So if you have a period of bad running then the recirculated gas can be full of black sooty deposits, so its worth cleaning.

As for what to do, usually just a jubiliee clip holding the big air duct on to the throttle body, undo that, spray a bit inside, you can wipe clean or i just put the duct back on run the engine a bit, then keep repeating till im happy.

Tried taking the pipe off to get to the throttle body, not a chance in hell that things going to move easily so i removed it from the filter box first and then sprayed some down the pipe as I didnt have too much time. The clips dont exactly make life easy.

Dont spray any more on that part of the pipe as your maf sensor may be inbetween and they dont like tb cleaner.

If you have one of those metal clips that just 'lock on', ie dont screw tight what i do is get a new one for about 50p from the motor shop, take the old one of using pliers then replace with the screw one.

Take that clip off and the pipe should come off with a bit of twist and pull action.

just inside you will see a flap, on older cars its manual and there is the accelerator cable on the side of the throttle body which you can turn by hand so it opens the flap and you can spray cleaner inside it.
On newer cars i think its electronic with the accelerator pedal so you may have to turn ignition on and keep pedal depressed?

If youre having problems its not essential to do above but gives a cleaner running engine.

Cheers ill have another bash nest week. The stuff I bought said to keep the engine idlein when spraying.

Some engines stall when you disconnect the air intake and try running it. If it does that just spray a little at a time, put the duct back on (minus clip while you run it).

Is that one that's linked to here that costs nearly £50 the same as this?

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=206

Probably for the same car/engine, but the one you have linked to is a paper one, basically you buy and throw out and replace when dirty. The one linked to is a permanent one made of cotton which you clean, re-oil and re-insert. I have a KN one for sale ;-). I persoanlly think they are a pain in the .... they give about 1bhp increase according to KN.
