Ok

This morning I used " WARM " water on the windscreen to remove some ice.
It obviously wasnt boiling. Im not that stupid :D

Anyways,
On way to college and noticed on the main display above the HU the external temp was showing as 22C !! :(. Well i live in NI so it clearly wasnt that hot ( we dont even get that temp in the bloody summer )

So
Can anyone tell me where the outside temp is read from ?
Thermometer or summit..

I also changed plates last night if that might of affected it somehow..
I ripped the old ones off as the screws had rusted over.

Thanks in Advance !

Part no. is 6K0 919 379

I changed mine about a year ago.

Officially the correct way to fit it would be to remove the door card, as thats where the plug is, but everyone just snips the wires at the base of the mirror.

is the outside temperature sensor that important?? i couldnt see the point in replacing it if it has no use apart from telling you the temperature!

How much is this part?
I think I paid about £25 or so for it, but thats before I knew there were dealers on SCN who where much more reasonable, so it might be cheaper.

As far as I'm aware it's also resposible for the climate control and also preventing the A/C going on when it gets too cold.

I remember when mine was reading too high, I couldn't get warm air on any setting other than HI, as the outside temp sensor was telling the car it was warm outside, when in actual fact it was extremly cold.

Ahhh but if it was reading -5 for example which mine would sometimes, then the AC wouldnt come on!

Exactly, that is what happened to the one on my daughter's car, dealer also just did a snip and crimp with some very nice little jointing ferules and insulating tape, as good as new without wrecking the door card fixings (as that was what I see they did replaced a wrecked seized driver's side door mirror) - that will be my first job when the weather gets warmer sometime!

Hey mate.
Far as I know (and mine reads about -10 degrees from the real temp) it only affects the AC.
Tha manual says the air conditioner will only work if the ext temp is above +5, so if the thing is constantly saying the temp is lower than that, then the AC just wont come on.
I assume that the heater (auto setting as well) works completely off of a temp sensor inside the canopy, so I don't think it woudl affect it?

If you find a cheap source for the ext-temp sensors PM me please.

Unfortunetly the heating does use the external temp sensor.

When mine was broke, it was reading too high, so the climate control was assuming it was warm outside and blowing in cold air, even though it was absolutly freezing.

There's also an internal temp sensor as well and the system uses both.

Razor, replacing your temp sensor will make your car blow hot air. But another thing you could do is hold in the Auto button for a few seconds to switch it to manual mode. Then you have the option of selecting H1,2,3 or L1,2,3 - H being high, L being low.

This switched the climate control off basically, allowing you to select a heat and have the system constantly stick to it. A good temporary solution to your problem!

The outside temp sensor not working doesn't effect my climate control. As far as im aware, the climate control uses 2 or 3 temp sensors in the cabin, it has no need to know the outside temp
