Dirty throttle body, take the top or the airbox off and clean the butterfly valve in the centre with wd 40 and a rag. Or spray carb cleaner through
Also replace your air filter and clean the air box and breather pipe that feeds it from any mayonaise/oil. Should find all that plus above makes all the difference. Mine used to cut out regularly when braking to stand still until I did all these things.
Also could replace your spark plugs and put some injection cleaner in a full tank of fuel if you want to go one step further. (Haynes manual says sparkies should be replaced every 20k miles I think)

thanks guys, cleaned the throttle housing, car works a treat, no more cutting out, already changed the plugs, oil, filters, dist cap and rotor arm, so knew it couldn't have been them. still have a slight misfire, which our electrician is hopefully going to sort out with his expensive diognostic kit. once again, many thanks. i did find out there is a fuel filter, by the fuel tank, when the car was on the workshop ramp last night, so i'll change that tonight as well.
Hello All, i have an ibiza 1.6 monopoint inj , also suffering from the erratic idle, cleaned the dist cap and rotor arm , cleaned the butterfly valve , changed fuel filter, replaced temp sensor , checked for faults on the ECU and didnt find any.
i have split fire spark plugs which i found them very clean, also replaced them with others but found same problem.
can any one advise further checks ?

Split Fires operate slightly differently from normal plugs so might be worth trying normal plugs back in there to see if it improves it.
Id run the engine and look in the engine bay at night, have a good look round for arcing from the HT Leads.
Sounds like the ignition system is almost completely checked as ok.
Vacuum leaks, air leaks etc can cause bad idle so have a good look at all the rubber hoses. For example i have a split in my crankcase breather hose going to the pcv valve, getting a new one but its reduced my mpg by 3-4, and also a slight imperfection on idle. Maybe also take the crankcase hose off the car and have a look for thick oil build up, might be worth taking the hose off and cleaning it inside, maybe by running a hose through it and letting it dry.
Also the Idle Stabilisation Valve is easy to take off and clean by leaving in petrol, may help, certainly has improved the feel of my engine.

You havent changed the HT leads, that could be the cause of your misfire. When I had one I changed the spark plugs first but I still had the misfire, changed the leads and it disappeared.
How do you take this off? I have tried in the past but its stuck on fast at the bottom end.
It looks like the bottom end has a plastic screw cap which screws the pipe to the crankcase like on a plastic waste plumbing joint... Is this the case? It's hard to see what's going on down there!!
yesterday i went to the mechanic and electrician and after checking, they advised that the problem may be in the Monopoint Injection System, so i will swap it today after work with my old 1.4 Monopoint Injection System .
does anyone know if the 1.4(60hp) and 1.6(75hp) have the same Monopoint Injection System, or like that i will decrease it's performance ?

Are the revs going up and down? Are the revs about the same but bumpy? etc

well that should rule out a timing issue.
I dont think its the single injection system either.
I think its either air intake leak or blockage, so check from filter (including filter itself) to throttle body.
Check all vacuum pipes closely for leaks, cracks.
listen around the inlet manifold for air leaks.
on my car there is a crankcase breather hose, thats worth checking, leaks there cause bad idle.
also on mine, possibly yours, is an idle stabilisation valve, you can take this off and soak in petrol for a couple of hours, it can get mucky inside, makes a difference.
the maf sensor measures air into the engine, so any leaks will affect the idle because of a bad mixture ratio.

changed the single injection system with my 1.4's and the car idling was perfect, of course it had a different size than my 1.6 so the car wasn't running as fast as the 1.6's single injection system .
my mechaninc advised that the problem is with the round **** metal plate that passes the fuel to the engine, so a guy made me a custom round plate to fit, but ofcourse my engine didn't run correctly, so replaced it again with my original one.
after that the idle choke works only after the ECU reset and after like 30 seconds it doesn't work,and no faults on ECU, replaced the choke but nill effect.
