I just ordered my new MK5 Seat with 0% APR, so here comes my question:

Is it possible to change headunit and is there any gromets for amp installation in the boot?

Thanks in Advance

Grommets in the boot or under the hood?

Headunt can be changed with a adapter plate me thinks. If there isnt one made yet for the beeza you could just get a custom one made.

What model did you go for?

I know my fair share untill It starts getting mathematical.

Dont know if there is a grommet under the bonnet, there is one in the mk4, but even then I still just drilled a hole to get from the bonnet to the cabin.

well I wouldnt go past 1200rms as the alternator and battery will struggle in the 1.4. Depends what your aim is mate. Show off value as in stupidly loud, sq, or a bit of both?

I went for stupidly loud :D

alpine type r's have good sq and controlled bass but arent overly loud as spec would suggest compared to some other brands.

If it was me I would get:

2 ascendant audio arsenals

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ascendant-audio-arsenal-p-6710.html?cadid=vasdio6c2ss4mcn8b8g28ao2a0

or 2 of these re audio se's

http://www.audioassault.co.uk/Subs/12"_Subwoofers/RE_Audio_SE12_D2_Subwoofer

coupled to this alpine amp

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-mrpm1000-p-6476.html?cadid=kp2n2lcu286bgc2inddpmbcmu2

or this jbl one

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jbl-gto14001-p-6738.html?cadid=kp2n2lcu286bgc2inddpmbcmu2

Either set up will sound nice day to day, and come show off time will absolutely kick. Both of the subs I have chosen above have massive excursion which looks great and my sub boxes actually jump up and down from it. The rear window wiper also jumps up and down at full tilt.

Just make sure to match up the amp and sub ohms properly!

Got some vids which I need to upload to youtube.

Running power like that will need atleast 2 gauge wiring, or ideally 0 gauge. Alot of install shops will probably tell you that 4 gauge will suffice, it wont. ;) (well actually it will but at full tilt you will start to suffer from voltage drop and wont get max power from your amp and can shorten the life of your equipment. No point buying expensive powerful equipment if the power supply isnt up to the job ;) )

Cheers for those mate, will take a look.

I am getting it done from a proper dude who installs for tv programmes etc, so he does the top jobs around.

With your system are your speakers coping okay? Or you reckon I should change the 4 speakers to decent ones? But that will make around 1500w rms :S

Also your boxes you got, they made by the site? Or urs custom built?

cheers for those

My speakers are run off the headunit albeit they are not standard, once I got my mega bass I sorta lost interest. The bass can overpower the treble and mid a bit on very bassy songs but other than that it sounds nice on most tracks, plus you can always turn the bass down via the headunit. If you want a top end to match your bass then id probably stick to 1000 rms for the subs and 300-400 rms for the components.

I know that takes things up to 1400rms and sounds contradictory to my claim of max 1200rms on the 1.4's stock charging system, but the thing is the amp that runs the components will rarely ever be pulling the full 400rms which will allow you to get away with it. The same is true for the bass to a lesser extent, you will rarely be pulling a amps full power unless you are doing spl burps, and playing the basiest of tracks.

Custom boxes are best, my mate built me mine, he has no experience in wood work and we didnt build it to spec, just what he thought would look good but it seems to work with my RE's although I reckon a proper box would make them even more impressive.

Ok Cheers for that, I like the RE Audio Subs you linked, so I think I will get them paired upto a JBL Amp.

I just need to decide know what speakers and if I should change the HU for more output.

Would a cap help at all?

cheers

Power caps will put more of a strain on the vehicles charging system due to on even one big bass note the amp will have sucked most of the juice out of the cap, and then the alternator has got to not only power the amps, but recharge the cap at the same time.

Me and my mate who both run the jbl gto amp used to have a power cap when we first started car audio but have learnt better now.

Id go alpine for components, not overly happy with my infinities, they lack any real mid bass punch. Luckily its not very noticeable at all with a sub, no sub and they sound terrible though. No bass whatsoever

Headunit I would change to a alpine x100, or x200 or x300. Best ipod headuint you can get.

Big bass has its drawbacks though, my mate is slowly killing his alternator, but then hes running his gto at 2 ohms so is running at 1500rms, plays his really music load all the time (surprised hes not deaf) and his car has done over 75000 miles so the alternator isnt the freshest.

Oh and its bloody addictive, you just always want more lol.

Nice those HU look good.

I need to find out if I can change HU first in MK5 lol, otherwise I am snookered:cartman:

Is there any good sites to find out what size my speakers would be?
What are better/would fit coax or comp?

ok that leads to 2 paths now lol. change HU or get 2nd amp.

For component speakers is there 2 slots in each door? like tweeter nd bass? or just one where they both go?

cheers in advance

one mid bass in the door, and the tweeter could be in the door also near the wing mirror or in the pillars. not sure on the mk5.

id start with the subs and then speakers, then hopefully by then they will have adaptors for the mk5 ibiza so you can upgrade the headunit and get amp for the components although you might feel that you dont need to amp them!

What you mean by then having the adaptors? At this moment in time couldnt i change HU nd stick in new speakers powered by the HU? Or isnt it possible to do it atm?
