How many miles is the pd130 good for

Having changed my original idea from a leon pd130 to an ibiza 130. always loved the leon but recently seeing the examples on here and following threads have been very keen on the mk 4 ibiza mk 4. read all of altech and ibiza 130 tdis lveing the progress beutiful cars theyve got. just wondered what kind of miles these are good for seen a few cheaper high mile examples out there to keep me going till i can really save up and get maybe an fr or cupra tdi ibiza any advice is welcome.

if its been driven well and looked after who knows? 200k+??

if its been driven by a twat and never looked after then considerably less.....

haha guess so well willl take code reader to have a look, obv check service record and twats usually have an obvious look about em chavvy little ***** haha but im sure ill suss it out cheers for your help

I think I saw on the TDI Club (US forum) that the VAG 1.9 diesels usually start to go wrong at around 250k, thats when head gaskets start going, etc

But it will depend on so many variables, If the owner just uses it for commuting and say lives 2mins from the motorway then spends the next xxx miles on the motorway and works 2mins from the motorway, it is likely to last longer than one that has built up the same amount of miles from A road driving and single carrigeways.


(O and if its the same R32 that I saw, it had been through 2 engines and 3 gearboxs, IIRC transporting diamonds around europe)

The engine will probably outlive the car by a long way. Other things will go wrong which will make it too expensive to repair before the engine goes. The VW dervs are built very well. Petrols are the ones to look out for.

The petrol engines are built well too, as long as they are serviced, cam belts/waterpumps changed on time, correct anti-freeze used etc. The derv and petrol engines will most likely outlive the car, it's the other parts of the car that will need fixing..

that reminds me of triggers broom on only fools and horses.:lol: i have had this broom 25 years,and in that time, i have had 10 new handles and 20 new heads :D

I can't really see the point, apart from perhaps a bumper or 2, in changing to an FR from a 130.
130's got better gearing too imho.

I've got about 136k on mine currently, and it just passed its MOT today with only a numberplate bulb holder and a CV boot failing it. CV boot I knew about, bulb holder was a pain as it was a bumper cover off job to get the melted connector off the loom-side connector. That said, under £6 for a complete number plate lamp assembly is a bargain.

I do 104 miles a day (total) to/from work, of which only 16 miles isn't dual-c/motorway. Love every minute of it in the ibiza and all the creature comforts too.

Handling as standard is a dog though, suspension and wheels with a better offset should be first on the list of mods.

Whats the diference in the gear ratio's between the sport and FR? better speed or acceleration?

Im guessing that the suspension is stiffer on the FR's as well?
I can't remember which gears are different, although I'm sure 6th is certainly better (less rpm) on the Sport.

Somebody must have a brochure handy which will give all the ratios.

FR is stiffer suspension.
