Cost of going BT and parts needed?

That £2k price probably includes pistons and possibly valves. For 380bhp you would only want rods and possibly valves. I think you could do that for £1500.

They are like rods and pistons. Weak spots when going for more power. The thing is there seems to be no power level where you need to upgrade them like rods at 350bhp and pistons at 400bhp as its more to do with how hard and high you want to rev and piece of mind. If you want to rev high then you defo need them. Bill seems to advise them from his experience. Others dont and run fine. Its a risk you take. Do them and you may never have had a problem but dont do them and you can bet they will be a problem. 380bhp might be ok without exhaust valves but if you are doing rods then the heads coming off so might be worth while.

already got rods, pistons, valves, springs, retainers, arp bolts all round and the block has been painted :D

I was quoted just under 3k from JBS for rods , pistons , valves , skim , acid clean and head check etc.
So thats a good quote then?

BT and revs, you really should budget for some valvegear you can depend on. from personal bad experience, dropped valve is complete engine write off. £5k risked vs £500 on parts is the choice

so:

£500 valves
£300 rods

thats then £1200 fitting? = 2k internals:cry:

still, it's peace of mind

I will have around £1100 put together come end of Jan, so thats the cost of internals covered at least

now just another £3900 to go for the rest!:cry:

stage by stage.. thats what being done by another customer.
internals done on his a3 quattro, in preparation for the BT to come next year. think of it as a foundation.

so would you recommend Bill - saving enough for internals and getting them done early next year, to bed them in and then getting the turbo etc all done later on in the year?

that was ive done just waiting on the price of the BT kit ;)

mind you, if Issam can bring in the BT kit cheaper, then I just pay for fitting and mapping....happy days:D

although from last time, I am now very wary of sourcing a kit from one tuner and getting it fitted by another, as that was the cause of so many problems with my gt2x setup:(

will be no good for me as ive got a new polo gti

will you not be able to send him your ecu and get him to put a map on it

no I meant INA Engineering (forum sponsor) would supply the kit and internals (if it's quoted cheaper) although still very wary of this, so would have to make 110% sure it fits, and then Bill would do the fitting/mapping

although for peace of mind I think I will just drop it off at Bill's and get him to do all of it:)

its an option, depending on finances.. running in wont amount to much time delay if any, so thats not a reason. big bang whole job one go first time round, saving for the whole thing will work out less labour tho for sure.

me being me, and the impatient soul I can be, I will want to go big bang, as you state for one very good reason, it will save on labour costs as while the head is apart, the manifold and turbo can all go on at the same time

I best get busy saving then!:D

yep.

until we seen sams offering who knows.
we're all waiting to see whats offered, and how well it fits as a kit etc

jamie,seriously mate,just get a quote from bill for the whole lot he is a fair and honest guy.Save up that amount and drop it off,job done.

I've had so much hassle in the past with bits from here and there missing bits not fitting not working,it's a nightmare.Do the job once do it right.
