15" or 16" Alloys for 1.2 65Bhp

I am finally going to get new Alloys for my 1.2 65bhp cant afford Seat ones so am going to get something similar what would be best 15" or 16"? bearing in mind i dont want to loose any performence not like i have much in the first place:rolleyes: would 16" affect fuel consumption stress on car? should i just stick with 15"?

go for 17s id say, theyre usualy cheaper than 16 in the ibizas and they do make a slight diff to mpg
plus they look better

The bigger the wheel from standard size - slower the acceleration, more so in a lower powered car, but technically a high top speed.

The smaller the wheel from standard, technically you can get faster acceleration, but a lower top speed.

In most cases that has been correct. Tbh, I'd go with 16. 17 is just too big IMHO.

Fuel consumuption? I think I slightly bigger wheel will help iirc. But only by 1-3mpg?

16's on a 1.2 wont really kick the wicked fast speed you already have, however get some decent rubber on it, 205 or 215 tyres, and it will handle like its on rails :) Go for 16's

i've got a 1.2 and 17s...i think it looks perfect...

have noticed any major difference either, jus more grip

I guess its the difference in person, the idea of 17's showing milk bottle top brakes arent my idea of looking perfect :confused:

I knew a guy with 18's on his 1.2 once :cartman: He ended up working at JBS ;)

Definatly 16 inch how much you looking at spending? As there is all ways some standard mk3 cupra ones floating about on for sale section! Think they would look ok on a mk4

As others have said. 16! Make sure you get a good quality tyre and make them wide and low profile! 40/205/16? The lower the profile the more original szie of tyre it goes down too.

If you go for 17, make sure you lower it, and it will mess up your speedo aswell.

immersion what sort of style you after 1st of all like if you after "euro" stick some 15's on with some stretch rubber on and lower it (ronal's or some thing), or like a motor sport look then go for 16's with a nice low profile like ppl said or just go for like a oem look and get cupra 1's?

Mk3 cupra's would look good on a mk4 apart from that the Mk3 PCD is 4x100 and the Mk4 is 5x100... you could get adapters but the thinnest generally are 20mm, I wouldn't put spacers/adapters on the front of my car :ban: lol

Given the correct profile tyre, the rolling radius will not change enough to make a noticeable difference with the speedo ;)

If you've got ~£200 per wheel without tyres then cupra's would indeed look sweet :)


Have a look for pre/post facelift fr alloys floating around. Pre = 16", post = 17" but the pre facelift are better... aren't they sparky hehe ;)

Keep your eyes peeled for the Mk2 Toledo that came with the same wheels, but the right bolt pattern
