Loud Vibrating Noise from engine bay

ah mine wasnt vibrating there, but the hose over more to the left and going against the actual pump housing on the left. Little bit f crappy carpet and a cable tie = SORTED!

its worth noting that the wife Ibiza has be banging away since we got it. Seat fitted a little pad on the fule filter to stop it.

But the continual vibration has case the upper intercooler pipe to get damaged and today it blow off....

My boost pipe is nowhere near anything to make contact, however i am running a pd160 intake and i noticed that where it connects to the front grill the pipe is quite loose not so it will ever fall out, but i moved it and it made the damn annoying rattle i hear from about 1500-2000rpm! not sure how to make it a tighter fit tbf any suggestions?

I'll have to try this on mine I have had a vibrating noise for about 6 - 8 months and got my car serviced yesterday they said that a brush on the near side suspension had gone. I thought that was causing the noise.

Right, for some reason the pic wont work- no idea why! I'll try to describe how to do it.
The fuel pump housing and intercooler pipe are at the bottom left of the engine bay, directly above the left headlamp. Tie one cable tie around one of the posts (at the 3 o'block position) and then loop the other down and around the intercooler pipe, making a link pulling the pipe against the body of the fuel pump housing. Phew! Hope this is enough info for you!

I have a vibrating sound at about 2500 rpm.I sounds like a brake pipe vibrating on the fire wall.I checked all of these and found no problem.I will try the intercooler pipe modification.Where abouts is it actually touching?
Is it one of the intercooler pipe clamps?

vibrating sound at 2500rpm

When I rev the engine up between 2500 and 3000 I get this vibrating noise resonating at quite a high frequceny.I have tried the intercooler mod where they say it rattles against the fuel filter and the vibration is still there.It is at its worst when accelerating past 3000 rpm and the backing off the throttle.It started directly after it went in for a service 15000km.I have ckecked the brake pipes against the firewall and there were a few that felt loose in the holding clips,but found nothing positive.Has anyone had something similar?
I know most of you resolved your problem with the intercooler pipe against the fuel filter.
Is there a possiblity the vibration is coming further down where the pipe leads to the intercooler itself?

Left side of the engine bay where the intercooler pipe comes up from underneath and passes the fuel filter housing, just wrap some foam around the pipe where it passes the filter.

Edit:

do you have a strut brace fitted if so it can vibrate against the airbox.

You say it gets worse the higher up the revs you go? That should count out boost pipework rattling then. Sounds perhaps more terminal? Possibly DMF on its last legs?
Only other thing i can think of is perhaps a wheel bearing gone.

no I dont have a strut brace.I removed the engine cover and I had someone hold the intercooller pipe and move it all directions and the noise is still audible when you sit in the car and rev the engine.I must say the intercooler pipe is far away from the petrol filter

The motor still has great performane and the vibrating sound seems to only around 2500 to 3000.It sounds like a steel pipe rattling on the fire wall.I must say it si quite annoying as the car is only 1yr old

Have you any other ideas I can try.Like I said in my previous thread.All I have to do is rev the car till it reahes 2500rpm then the vibration starts, and you an only hear it in the car with the windows closed.,It stops vibrating after 3000rpm.I am conteplating taking it bak to the VW dealer ship to see if they can sort it out as I know the service manager and possibly I ould get a better service.Seat is no longer available to purchase in SA as VW the parent company decided it was no longer viable to sell them possibly due to Seat taking sales away from Vw.Anyway thanks for the help I will have to search on for the problem

As Tom says it could be your DMF (flywheel) giving you a problem, they are known to fail and not a cheap fix I am afraid. The above fixes are the usual culprits so your best bet is probably to take it to your VW dealer and ask them to diagnose.

Personally I would get some 22mm or bigger pipe insulation foam or similar from your local DIY store and just cable tie some around the intercooler pipe (silver pipe in the picture) between the fuel filter (large canister with pipes coming out of the top) this way everything is allowed to flex when the engine moves moves around. All that is needed is to stop both componants from directly touching each other and hence vibrating causing the aweful noise you are experiencing.

markpl mine sounds just like yours. I'll be taking it to seat in Jan. I'll let you know if they sort it. Its drives me crazy. You can feel it through the peddle at 80! Other than that its just an annoying noise!

Got back from seat before. They had a look while I held the reves between 2500 and 3k. Didn't sound like it was coming from the intercooler pipe at the front as it does in most cases. He said its morelikly the AC pipes at the back on the fire wall. He said there was no bracket holding them in place but wasn't sure if there should be one or not.

There's no point me paying £70 an hour labour to have them secure it so i'll take it to a local garage.

The intercooler pipe noise generally requires some engine movement, IE when the car is accelerating and the engine is twisting on it's mounts.

When I had the rattly IC pipe on mine, it could never be replicated when the car was stood still...

With the skillful positioning of a couple of bricks or similar against the loud pedal to hold it at the right RPM, you might be able to trace it yourself
Just don't do it with kids or dogs in the car that might knock it into gear

one thing to watch out for with using cable ties is not to pull on the pipe too much. i obvously did the ties up to tight on mine, eventually i ended up buying a new rubber boost hose as it had worn by not being seated correctly on the intercooler due to cable tieing the boost pipe to the fuel filter. point to note, no longer need cable ties, changing the rubber boost pipe stopped the noise also.

Has anyone tried aceman's suggestion. I keep reading about people tampering with the fuel filter when that doesn't need to be touched, intercooler pipe needs a bit of give anyway, not to be fixed still. I have had my pipe insulation round the intercooler for few weeks now and its dream. Never thought my local garage were the brightest lads.
