Check that it isnt going into limp mode, rev it hard in 4th and 5th, if the power drops off, you've probably got a problem with the vanes sticking, it wont cause any damage, its just annoying. Other than that, just the usual leon things like wet carpets. Oh yeah, and when it comes to changing the clutch, you'll be better off with a 110 as they dont have the dual mass flywheel, so it a cheaper job. £300 on a re-map and you should see around 140Bhp too. ;)

erm there arnt really other faults that arnt obvious, if its running like a bag of spanners and smoking like hell, walk away. Ona test drive, boot it from low down the revs, have a look to see if there's any excess smoke before the turbo comes in. Bushes can be common, but not overly so depending on the millage, obviously these will give knocks, or the car will pull left/right and the Tyre wear will be uneven. Brakes should be keen and not need much effort. Handbrake is self adjusting, so there shouldnt be alot of travel on the lever inside the car. If its a SE, give the climate control a work out, turn it right up, put on all the vents (3 buttons on the right hand side of the control) check your getting air from them all and the actuators are working. Check the aircon is nice and cold.

Course you do mate, tbh you cant really go wrong, the cars based on an extremely reliable platform, you can have some bad luck of course, i mean i paid £3900 for my 02 plate SE TDi, a month or so later the alternator pulley snapped off, i looked into this as i though "oh no another common problem" lol but i only found one other car on TDI club with the same thing happen, but tbh, with 80K on the clock, things are going to wear, its just unlucky it wasnt a cheap item to replace (300 with a new belt fitted).

Ive just though too, the coolant temp sensors can go, not just on these 110's but across all the VAG range, was a common thing on my previous car too ('95 1.3 polo). The only real way of seeing if its duff is to get a code reader on it though. Problems will be a slightly rougher start, if it gets bad, then you'll be under/over fueling all over shop. Replacement part is £15 but its a bit fiddly as its at the back of the engine. Garage will probably charge part price, 1hr labour and 1L of coolant (usually needs topping up)

Yea pretty sure that happened to my golf mk 3 1.4 (95 too) 1 before my current car but that was really to bad cos it was a bit of mess around haha but now im into getting something i really like always love the leon diesels seems the way to go with economy and motorway driving plus theres so many tuning options. oh and then theres insurance bein a 19 yr old boy is it not good for everything ha. so if i can get hold of the code reader (about 40 quid from what ive found, sound right?) then just plug in pre ignition mode and ill know all there is to know?

thanks again!

yep, thats what ive got, just a cheap code reader, it'll give me the actual sensor name thats faulty, but even if it just gives numbers, Ross tech wiki website has a data base you can check the numbers off against to give you the module name ect. Im 18 and with my dad im paying £1400 a year, hopefully it'll drop next year. Its a group 7 car, that's hardly "boy racer" yet its pleanty fast enough, either pay that price for this, or the same for a saxo or something, i know which will be a FAR better car :cartman:

It is a pain in the arse, but it needs to be done, im not driveing in a ford KA or something under my own name and paying the same amount every year, i love cars, its all i spend my money on :cartman: Im from the north west liverpool/manchester way. Nah not done anything, im planning on a set of wheels soon, but ill be leaving it at that i think, possibly a re-map when ive got the money. Oh and ill be doing a mufflerectomy to get rid of the silly big back box lol

Hybrid and bigger injectors will only be in a few years, unless ive changed car by then, but tbh i cant see it. Im in love with this diesely beast :cartman:

On the subject of insurance...
It's worth giving Admiral a go.

I'm 17, insured as a named driver under my dad and paying £1037 on my TDi 110 Leon...

Something tells me maybe they wont like a remap so much though...
