Car passed its MOT with 'flying colours' and managed to retax and apply for the new V5C in one swoop,

Sourced some calipers from a UR quattro off the bay to replace the suspected seized calipers, not bad for £26 posted and can sell the old ones for more than that after Ive given them a refurb.

In celebration of getting it back on the road and #cough# legal, I decided to use a bonus I got from work and buy a Bluetooth HU with built in handsfree to replace the dated minidisc player that was in it

Then on driving home tonight from work pulling away from a set of lights....................

I think this car hates me as much as it hated its previous owner! :lol:

Didn't look that far as it was dark and pissing down, thought it was the diff at first, but least this will be an easy fix even if they're sheared

Why is it me that gets the wierd and wonderful failures!

Well you could of got something like an uber reliable little 1.1 micra but ya had to have the mk2 didn't ya :p

If they didn't go wrong we wouldnt have a reason for coming on here so much, plus when they are going well they are so much fun :D

Mine gave me a shock on the way home, it hit 40 indicated in first and 65 indicated in second! Sure my last GTi didnt do that!

The joys of mk2 ownership :rolleyes:

Before any repair work commenced there was the small location problem of getting the car from where it was to the bottom of my road - about 120 metres. Having had my Weetabix that morning I decided to push it - on my own in one go:blink:!

Once I got my breath back it was up in the air to assess the damage and the driveshaft out, not as bad as I was expecting no snapped bolts which was a plus but two of the 6 holes had the threads damaged and run a tap the end of a cordless drill through carefully. Some burring had occured which was sorted out with a file and then had the joy or reassembling the CV after a ball bearing popped out:mad: Still at a loss as to explain how they worked loose:shrug:

Reassembed with new genuine spline bolts for a grand total of £8.37:)

Also played around with the new HU and got the bluetooth working, although the reception is crap - bloke who installed it insisted it didn't need the aerial amplifier I bought:rolleyes:

Haha, I made the mistake of taking my CV apart - much harder to work out how to reassemble than the Leon ones. :D Actually, I think the Mk2 ones are a really neat bit of engineering!

that happened a few times to my cousin back when he owned my old 8v gti!:doh:

same here but having a helping pair of hands at the time it was caused by the double washers being left off (probably me to be honest) and as a pennance mine was NS and happened as i pulled off at a roundabout and spun round for a healthy smack straight through the gearbox casing :headhurt:

but as always, look on the bright side - 2 mins before i was tearing up a 3 mile straight bypass bordered with lot of concrete :blink::blink:
