try unplugging the maf and see if it improves. a dying maf wont show up on vagcom.
cat has before and after sensors so id have thought it would flag up if an issue

Have you tried logging with Vagcom?

Logging the MAF (block 003) and the Actual vs requested boost (block 115) should be a good starting point. Logging needs to be done on a flat straight road in 4th gear from low rpm right up to the red line. Plenty of info on this in the vagcom section.

post 66 shows a piccy although hes got an open cone. disconnect and drive but not far. youll have a dash light on. if it drives amazing the mafs proberly on its way out.

unplugging the maf makes the engine run rich so plug it back in once youve tested it as it could knacker your cat:)

ok i just had a quick drive around the block , it did make a diffrence , but only a mild amount, would that be because it is now over fueling?

also dose anyone know the part number and cost of a new maf sensor?

the ecu uses safe values if it gets no reading from the maf. so it maybe that the current maf is giving a bad signal hence improvement.
the black plastic tube that the maf sensor sits it should have a part number on it if i remember right.

you dont sound convienced its the problem..

if you get it logged with vagcom and record the maf whilst driving it should prove it.

air filter nice and clean?
