was thinking of installing a stainless steel intercooler this weekend but i have no idea where the original one is on the pd 150? a friend said check the wheel arches but no dice. i followed the hoses but still couldnt see as its quite a cramped engine bay. Any ideas where it is, or has any one got the lay out of the induction system?

It`s the big shiny thing at the front of the car. No need to uprate it as it`s big enough for anything your likely to want to use it for. PD130 engines have the SMIC in the front right wheel.

Yup sound advise from Mikey.

150PD is good for anything up to 230-240BHP. Its more efficient too if you get the SFS kit as it lowers temps down by around 5 degrees. If you want even lower temps then you can get an uprated one but its a bit of a waste unless you got a 130 with an SMIC.

Top man for the spot there Mikey!

I thought that the standard FMIC could just about cope with 300bhp? Anyway pretty much academic though unless you have very deep pockets.

MDS has been running on the 150PD intercooler with around 250bhp. He only swapped it because of the raging heat in Portugal. In a colder climate like the UK as we experienced on Wednesday night at Bucks meet, it might be good for 300? Who knows...

I think 250BHP is more realistic figure.

Because a FMIC gets cold air blowing on it to keep the intercooler cool which cools the inlet air where as the SMIC gets sod all cold air so soons warms up and does a piss poor job of cooling the inlet air therefore loose of power. Simple really.

what if you somehow relocated the OEM SMIC to in front of the radiator?

The OEM SMIC is tiny to start with so your onto a no brainer really anyway.

i did expect a bit of a power gain but when my car was mapped it was 176 bhp then with the fmic and air filter it hit 194 on rollers that actually make the cars power modest!!!must admit after riving very har when you stop and feel the egr removal plate its cold compared to when it used to be scortching with smic
