Hello People

This may seem a strange question but on the Ibiza 1.9TDI Sport(100ps) which come standard with 100BHP and Torque wise, 240NM, 177lb-ft.

If someone asks how much torque has your car got what would I say 240 or 177 lol?
I just do not understand the whole torque thing haha.

Thanks in advance

It's no different to saying you weigh 75kgs or 11.5 stone - Nm and lbft of torque are just different units of the same thing. Nm are like cms whereas lbft are like inches.....

I dunno, these derv people, they find out that their engine has a bit more of somthing than next door's but they don't have a clue what it all means ;)

Just to make all the pd100 owners feel good (your engines have a tad more torque than a 20vt) :cartman:

The next question is going to be "what is torque then"............well that is a hard one to answer

It's a funny old topic isn't it, yes torque can make a car fast but the fastest racing cars like F1 cars have very little torque

Motorbikes will always piss past you in a car and they have very little torque too

The force applied to a lever multiplied by its distance from the lever's fulcrum, the length of the lever arm, is its torque.

OR

Torque is the rotational or twisting force of the engine and power is just a calculation of that depending on rpm.
Diesel makes loads of torque at low revs but not much power at the top.
Vtec honda or something has no torque but lots of revs so makes power right at the top 8000revs or so.
Generaly speaking ofcourse ;)
