GTI costs as much as a cupra. Cupra makes the GTI boring in comparison

I had the same dilema when I was changing cars. I've also wanted a MKV Golf GTI although found them way overpriced compared to the Leon FR 2.0 TFSI.

Problem is to put the spanner in the works there's the Cupra 2.0 TFSI which is still cheaper than a GTI. As a result I bought an 8 month old Cupra which wasn't much more than an FR last Xmas.

I've never looked back and I love it.

Yes, you will see a few more GTI's around than the Cupra's. There's only mine & another Yellow one in the Northumberland area which I seen.

Out of the two if you can afford it, the Golf GTi is probably the better car. I have been very disappointed with my Cupra. Performance is amazing but that's about it. The build quality is awful and the dealer back-up is pants.

Very pricey the Golf GTi though and the Golf is out next year.

Also I think the Scirocco will tempt GTi buyers, so the used values will go down and better deals will be had on a new one.

No doubt the GTI is a nice car, I like it a lot, but after having driven one of the ones here at work a few times it is no better than the FR.

The interior I find bland in the GTI and the seats look terrible. Don't get me wrong, the Leon isn't perfect, but even if they were the same price I'd still get the Leon as it has more kit as standard and looks much better than the golfs you see everywhere.

I also don't agree with the quality jibes either. Certainly, the MK2 Leon is a massive improvement over the MK1 and the Golf does have just as many rattle issues.

To be honest, none of this topic will help you as you just need to drive them and draw your own unbiased conclusions. Whichever you get it'll be great fun!

GTi costs more than a Cupra and they've stopped production of the current GTi until the next one comes out, which is supposed to be £1500 more than the outgoing model and you wont get as much of a discount off a VW as you would a SEAT.

So really it should be Cupra or Scirocco, better quality interior but still costs alot more than the Cupra would

Am I the only person that fiund the GTI dull? There's loads on the road and they go totally unoticed, maybe that's what people want.
I also think the golk mk5 and 6 by the looks of it looks like a a lemon cut in half (too high and short, C3 style).
I'm sure I've offended all the golf lovers out there now so sorry...
Oh and the scirocco is an awesome choice, if I had the money, it would certainly be my choice! Although I have a feeling by this time next year, everyone and their uncle will own one.

I really dont like the look of the new Golf and I think the current one looks a bit bland.

The only problem I have with the Scirocco is that it'll cost more than the Cupra but will be a bit slower, plus it'll be far less exclusive

It would seem the GTI is the default hot-hatch choice - probably for the usual reasons - build quality, interior using decent materials and the fact that it drives so well.

They do look a little ordinary though, which is one of the reasons I went for the Cupra - aside from the fact it's quicker, has a motorsport pedigree and well, it's just different. :)

Downside is explaining to 'non-car' people what it is - some thought mine was a Suzuki  Well I suppose the 'S' on both ends gave them a false clue.

If in doubt get a GTI - it will probably be better come resale time and you'll know you are driving an iconic car that is a top quality piece of kit.

LEON FR

for
1. Best design.
2. rare on streets. (unique)
3. low price relatively.

aganist
1. cheap interiors (somehow but adequate)
2. small leg room in the back. I feel it smaller the MK1 from driver's seat as well.
3. 17" n ride hieght.

GTi

for
1. best re-sale value + high quality interiors.
2. better suspension. (all test drives, persoanl experience with VW) +18".
3. VW stealers are usually better in after service.

aganist
1. VW shitt for cost cutting keeping the back bumper half colored is pissing.
2. i agree with the C3 concave look, a bit.
3. edition 30 ?!? why not standard??!

Scirocco, sexy, special and overtakes that legacy back to life again. BUT i think it has a renault spirit in the front and an Alfa back!! out of budget and coupe, not suitable.

Golf GTi is the much organized interiors, and I am here in Saudi Arabia, where German cars in general are rare! ;)

They are going to release a more powerful version at some point, but don't know when.

More engines will be available early next year: 2.0 TDi and 1.4TSI

There will also probably be a lower trim level since the current one is GT spec
