No, I ain't talkin bout the indian diesel nerd-o-bike which has like 3hp and looks like the bike my grand-dad threw away cos it looked too dated,,, I'm talkin bout this:

IMHO even in a 'performance' car [and I mean a REAL performance one] a diesel engine is outta place,,, serious cars are and always will be petrol [maybe electric one day] unless we learn the way to let diesel engine rev higher which can't be physically achieved cos of the way diesel ignites [without spark plugs].

Mind you this is a cruiser/custom bike so I think this is a cool idea,,, you couldn't put such an engine in a jap screamer supersport type bike [GSX-R, R1 or the likes] cos it won't rev and hasn't the right power/displacement ratio,,,

but being bolted onto a 'slow' bike that's built more for midrange torque than all out hp I'd say the idea is cool,,, to put it simpler: in the harley-davidson view, this is a nice bike to drive [bar the sound of course,,, ]

I ain't gonna start the N-th diesel-vs-petrol argument, I drive a TDI and I love it,,, in the city and normal driving I appreciate this kind of engine. an S2000 might have 240hp with a 2 liter NA, great engine, right but still to get max power you gotta rev the **** outta it and this can be ok on track but surely not for everyday driving,,, but if we talk all out sports cars then petrol is still the way to go [bar the electrics cos I've seen some VERY nice examples,,,]

Missed this one and have always thought that it would be a good idea to have a diesel bike. Loadsa torque with it being similar characteristics to a V twin I would have thought.

The project cruiser bike is not my cup of tea but anything that can increase the range of some of the tanks would be good.

I would have thought that BM might have come up with something like this with a GS or something - give it some 350 mile range or something - perfect for touring. If they did there would be no looking back. Just look what they did when they started putting diesels into cars not that long ago. IIRC I think they even poo poo'd a diesel going into their cars years ago. The Japs certainly did and they're even at it.

It would be the start of something new I hope.

Husband, I see this as a one off project,,, it's utterly cool but can't see that much market for it really,,, mainly because 90% of the bikers would look at that with disgust,,, altho, in a harley-ish point of view, as I said before and as you said now, it might be kinda clever,,,

Quite a few bikes get less than a hundred miles on there tanks due to a number of reasons - size of tank, the bike itself and more importantly how its ridden.

Its only an inconvenience but I've been out with few Dukes, Guzzi's, VTRS and the odd hornet and to be honest with you it can be a pain in the arse when riding in a group. Been riding around many a time late at night with a few guys on vapours looking for an garage that is open. It seems easy enough to avoid but with only a hundred mile range its not as easy as it sounds in out of town areas.

These bikes could get a 150 range with a diesel. Much more realworld.
