Anyway, just emailed Damian to see if he could do some kind of small discount bearing in mind i was a member of this forum, not sure if that would wash or not, hopefully not being cheeky but with it costing best part of £500, i can only try ! - shy bairns get nowt !. I would sing their praises on here if they did a good job for a good price, and word of mouth is always a good thing i think !. Hopefully that's not being too cheeky !

Andy

I had mine done last week with the VW dealer - cupra with 60k on the clock. Had cambelt kit, water pump, aux belts and major service. Was 400 notes but that was a sat afternoon job as a favour so id dread to think how much it would be direct. Def worth doing at 60k id say, I had a look at my old water pump and half of it was missing, broken up into bits. Saved by the bell!

Aye, very jammy, jammy !. So is an 80K service classed as a "major" service, or was that at 60K ?. The main stealer dealer quoted me £210 all in for an 80K

Well, just an update here, but i rang Volksparts (Meadowfield) - recommended by this site somewhere!. They quoted:

Cam belt renewal (with tensioners and rollers) AND water pump (metal type) = £213.09
Full 80k service (with fuel filter) = £152.80

Totalling £365.89 !

Can this be true ?? Sounds too good. but they do know what they're talking about ! they're at www.volksparts.com/

LOL ! - yeah i realised that after i googled it !, but have read good reviews on volksparts, and they seem to know their stuff !. I might just get it booked in there. He did mention that he thought the cam belt only had one tensioner ( or roller, did he say ??), would that be the case on a 52 Leon Cupra ? This saving money is definitely swaying me into keeping my LC !

Booked it in for next Tuesday:

Getting 80k service (oil filter/fuel filter/spark plugs/pollen filter/suspension checked/electrics checked/fault diagnosis checked/oil change: £152.80 all in

Cam Belt (rollers/tensioner) AND water pump £213.09

Total £365.89

Sounds pretty good !, better than £600 from the stealers !!

Cheers,
Andy

also http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules...7&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

I'll pop it down there methinks!.

Incidentally, going back to my 3rd off last post, would the cam belt on my LC only have one tensioner ? i'm sure he said it only had one tensioner (or he might have said one roller ?). :)

Regards,
Andy

One tensioner and one roller judging by the kit on here:

That's a blinding price, wish they were down this way!

Well (as we speak) car is in the garage for 80k service + Cam Belt:

They have found a few problems:
CV Boot (Nearside) leaking grease : £69.00
Rear Suspension Spring broken : £81.54 (genuine part) - on order though
Wipers Front : £19.50
Wiper Rear : £6.29

80k service (plugs etc) : £156
Brake Fluid changing: £29.90
Cam Belt AND Metal Water Pump : £219

Totalling £572 !! - does that sound pretty reasonable ?. It doesn't sweeten the fact that the car has cost me £1000 this month and does seem a fair price (considering the stealer dealer was quoting me £600 for ONLY Service + Cam Belt !!!), but hopefully after this it should run like a bullet !

Andy

I have been searching for the answer to this question for months now!

I had taken my 2002 1.8T Cupra for its 60k service and the service guy told me the cam belt service was due too.

Now in the service manual in my car I had read that for "Cupras only" the cam belt service was 120k miles, all others 60k, so I told him that, but he just came back with, "oh yeah, they have changed that to 60k, it changed about a year ago".

Feeling like I was about to be fleeced for my money I argued that it was in the service book for a reason.

He pulled out a whole wad of papers and said he was contacting all these people to tell them that the sevice interval had changed, but to be honest, those papers could have been anything as I didnt see what was on them.

Reluctantly, I had it done.

The car they loaned me (08 Ibiza) for the service had a service book in it and in there it said the same thing, Cupras only 120k. I challenged the service guy with that and he said, "that book was printed before the change". Hold on a second.......he said it changed over a year ago! Now I was wondering what was going on!

I contacted Seat UK through the website and asked the question (many times!). They could not (or would not) give me an answer. They kept on asking for the reg or vin number of the car, probably so they could see my records to get their facts straight, but I didnt see why they would need that information for a service interval question. Its quite simple, if the interval had been changed they would have told me 60k. But they didnt!

I feel as though the garages have changed the interval to get more money out of us, not because it neccessary!

Ironically, this garage has just gone into recievership and closed down. Is that carma?

Hi there, no infact it was a smart move getting it done at 60K, if your cam belt were to snap (it is possible!), then you would be billed for a hell of a lot more than just a belt !. I was stupid and didn't realise it needed doing at 60K and left mine till 80K, it didn't snap but it could have done. It's far better to be safe than sorry and i suggest 60K is a good time to get the cam belt changed, or at least start thinking about it, i'm sure most on here would agree.

How much did you pay incidentally ?

Best Regards,
Andy

I love my Leon Cupra so much and i really do want to keep it!.

Andy

If you love the car it will be money well spent preserving it.

I did water pump and cambelt on my escort which was 11 years old and done 135k and not worth a bean, but I loved it. That said I did do the work myself.
Also when the clutch started to slip 3 weeks ago, I gave up and brought my Leon and sold the escort for £90 on wednesday lol

While the cars still worth it and looking smart you might as well maintain it.

Hi Andy,

I had it done during the 60k service and it cost an extra £165.75 on top of the service. :(

One question though! Why does the book state 120k?
