How much? Quite expensive. With launch control and VAT it was £700 delivered. However, I think it's worth it. It's really made the car come alive in the lower gears. I didn't go for full throttle shift as I didn't think I'd ever use it. I wasn't sure if I would go for the launch control either, but we all like to play sometimes.

I'll probably go and collect the mounts from the shipping depot today (there is £30 import duty to be paid). They actually arrived on the third but I didn't get a letter until a couple of days ago.
I'll report back with my opinion of quality etc.

Is it quicker in lower gears now as the most power is put down instead of spinning up? How much quicker off the line do you think it is now? How long to wire it up?

Big question is how long will the turbo last with the spark stop feature??? so i may give this a miss.

Err most traction control systems work like this! I think the standard ESP system works like this but I could be wrong. Others brake single wheels and on turbo cars some bleed boost off but Im not sure if this is how our cars do it as I would imagine the system would be the same on the whole vag range and there are many non-turbo vag cars with ESP.

What sort of time would the traction control, save you on 1/4mile? .2/3sec?

Depends how much you spin up normally. You couldnt do a launch like you can with the launch control on racelogic without spinning up I would have thought and its supposed to be the fastest way to get off the line so might save quite abit of time.

Caveo, unfortunately you probably won't be able to fit this TC to your car. 2001 onwards vehicles have missfire detection which interferes with it. If you could switch the missfire detection off then it should work.
Racelogic understand it's a closed off market for later cars, and they sounded like they would be very interested to hear if it could be disabled.

I'm running Genesis 415cc items at 4bar. Effectively 480cc.

This particular system doesn't cut the spark, only the fuel. Some info quoted from Racelogic's website.

Fuel Cut

The idea of cutting fuel to an engine sets alarm bells ringing in engine builders, as they all know of the potential disaster of a high revving race engine running lean. Running in a lean combustion mode will elevate in-cylinder temperatures very rapidly, the denser the air/fuel charge, the more heat the lean burn can generate. Therefore it is vital that a fuel cut system will not cause a lean burn.

The simplest way of preventing a lean burn is to remove more than 50% of the fuel from the pulsed delivery. A mixture will only ignite if the air/fuel ratio is within a tightly defined window, look at the efforts being put into making lean burn engines fire on very low air/fuel ratios (1:20 or more). Removing more than 50% of the fuel will cause an air fuel ratio of over 1:25 and will result in a complete miss-fire, with the unburned fuel passing out through the exhaust valve. Even if a high air/fuel ratio did manage to ignite, the energy available from the amount of petrol injected wouldn't be enough to elevate temperatures significantly. Of course the ideal system will remove 100% of the pulsed fuel delivery, allowing the cylinder to take a gulp of fresh air, and the in-cylinder temperature would remain virtually unaffected. Racelogic Traction Control operates in this manner - the complete injector pulse is removed so no possibility of lean burn can exist.

Prolonged fuel cut on one particular cylinder would cause scavenging of the petrol lining the inlet tracts, and when the next full fuel pulse arrived, it would be partially reduced in quantity by the re-wetting of these tracts. Therefore it is often important to manage a rotation of the cylinder cutting to prevent this situation from occurring.

Spark Cut

Cutting the spark to an engine will stop any chances of a weak mixture occurring, but it carries it's own potential problems due to a large quantity of unburned fuel travelling through the cylinder and out of the exhaust. This petrol can remove some of the oil lining the inside of the cylinder, and pass it thorough the exhaust, again this only becomes a problem if the fuel to one particular cylinder is cut for an extended time. The best way to overcome this is to rotate the order in which the cylinders are cut.

The unburned fuel in the exhaust will have a catastrophic affect if there is a catalytic converter in the exhaust, as it will try to convert the unburned fuel to harmless elements, effectively burning the mixture. This causes the catalytic converter to heat up very rapidly, reaching temperatures in excess of 1000°C, and possibly melting down completely. Thus prolonged spark cut is not recommended for catalytic equipped cars.

I'm still playing and as yet I couldn't tell you how much time it would save. I haven't tried my car at santa pod, but I may do a few runs at GTI International this year with the system off and then again with it on.

Just to add, I had a play on some twisty roads and full power out of roundabouts earlier. What understeer I had now seems to have been controlled. Again, very impressive.

Oh yes, it took me a day in all to fit. Most of which was removing parts like trim and other stuff that was in the way. I work pretty slow as I like everything neat and double checked connections along the way. Used wiring diagrams from ElsaWin for connection info.

That little toy sound like something you couldn't do without for a BT install FWD car.
Are there any other products on the market that compare to this one for function but at a lower cost.
I get TRC magazine, there is one advertized on the back of it this month but doesn't look as comprehensive as this one

Was going to post this in Caveo's thread, but didn't want to hijack :)

PJ1985, I ran some logs yesterday. With regard to spec load vs actual load, the Audi manual mentions to look to see whether these two values are withing 0.3ms of each other from 4000rpm, which they are. I will presume that boost control is working correctly. What I did find is that my intercooler isn't up to the job as some of the logs (not pictured) were showing AIT close to 70°C. I'll sort this out soon.

What do people think about these numbers?

As previously mentioned the car feels very strong, its just the boost seems a little high looking simply at my boost gauge. Too much CFs?

I have a theory that JBS didn't notice the injector 3 air leak and it was mapped to 22psi. Now I have fixed the leak, its holding more.........sound reasonable?

I've also noticed an error code 00561 adaption limit not reach (add). So mixture is slightly lean but only at idle. Related?....well I'm not sure. I've tested fuel pressure and delivery which is within spec.

Ryan_S3, interesting comment about my lower torque. Bill and Wilko say it's okay at 273lb/ft for big port. I was told by JBS that torque was kept down due to standard rods. Can this be set via timing as well as boost?

Anyways, I've got a bunch of questions for JBS when I see them at GTI International (they will love me :) ).
I'm planning to see them soon for a map tweak if it needs it.

Also might get my car on the mobile dyno on Saturday.

Found a broken pipe to the charcoal canister today. The one from the fuel that sits in the engine bay. This has been fixed. I wonder if it will have any effect on the error code I'm seeing. Will check codes after a few miles of driving.

if there's an air leak it will be found.
i dont believe any lambda idle control settings are adjusted in the mapping process.. only loaded sites

sounds most likely cause, same as your previous airleak on injector

Been under my car again today to fit some new engine mounts. The INA street density items look just like OEM mounts but with harder rubber (80 durometer I believe)

INA_Street_Density_Engine_Mounts.jpg

Not the most exciting things to look but they do the job. The engine is held much better with minimal vibration felt in the car. I didn't fancy a set of vibra-technics mounts for this reason.

My old mounts must have been trashed as gear changes feel much better now.

Also had a good look around whilst under the car and noticed a bolt missing from the bottom of the turbo to downpipe........interesting.
I check the other bolts and found some of them to be loose, so replaced the missing one and tightened the others.
I was previously getting a whistling sound under high boost which seems to have gone now. Some air must have been escaping at WOT.

Also since fitting a new charcoal cannister pipe, I haven't seen the 00561 error code return.

So today I am a happy camper. Just the slightly high boost to looking to now, which I'll be asking JBS about.

did you use the nordlocs everywhere?

since you advised me ive bought loads of them for stock and every part of my exhaust, manifold and external wastegate has them :D:D
