Has anyone used Halfords oil? reasonabley priced :) it obviously meets the 505.01 spec (has it rebranded?)

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...rumb_33958-31345-53252_parentcategoryrn_77307

I also noticed they are giving away a crappy screwdriver set with it ;)

Reasonably priced? £33 or so for a non branded oil from the worlds worst motor factors. You can buy Fuchs (quality stuff) for that price, and less if you know where to look. Admittedly you don't get the free pack of average screwdrivers worth a couple of quid, but I could live without that.

OIL Cupra TDI 160

Remember that SEAT also insist that the Ibiza Cupra TDI MUST have 506.01 in it. Very similar engines, same service intervals...you make up your own mind :)

it´s possible to put an VW 507.00 (5W30) oil in a Cupra with a BPX engine?

Thanks

OIL FOR cUPRA TDI 160

From the first post in this thread...

VW505.00

Basically for all of the older diesel (read non-PD) diesel engines:

1.6 & 1.9 D/TD/SDI/TDI90/TDI110 & 2.5TDI & 3.3TDI

VW505.01

For Diesel PD engines:

1.4TDI & 1.9PD's (115/130/150) & 2.0

VW506.01

As above but for variable service (extended range servicing).

it´s possible to put an VW 507.00 (5W30) oil in a Cupra with a BPX engine?

Thanks

Yes, VW507.00 replaced VW506.01 recently.

ok... thanks.... i thought that the new VW507.00 was only for engines with DPF, so the the VW507.00 is better than VW506.01?

If i am right the higher grade oils are backward compatible, i.e. 507.00 can be used for anything below with exception of 505.01 requirements? Correct me if i am wrong.

i really don´t know, i thought that this specfication was only for DPF engines there so is the latest spec. i hope someone can clarify this issue. thanks

VW505.01 - 5w 40 and VW 506.01 - 0w 30 have both been replaced with the [backwards compatible] VW504 / 507 - 5w 30 spec.

All [VW and Audi] at least dealerships use the same oil for either service regime. There are a couple of exceptions (something like the V10 TDI and the RS range) which still have 506.01 or other specified.
