Leon Stubby Mirrors

Hello
I'm a MK4 Golf owner and some of you may have seen my ad on Edition 38 for stubbies mirrors for VAG around yr 2000.

Has anybody seen this done for MK1 Leon and would anybody be interested in these?

If you don't know what I mean, it's Lupo / Arosa style 125mm mirrors on Leon bases - instead of the standard 175mm ones.

Thanks for reading, any comments appreciated.

Are you selling these then mate? How much if so?

At the moment I'm in the process of preparing my first set of Leon ones, with Leon original bases that will plug straight in.
Just want to see if any one has done it before and if there is a demand.
Thanks for the responses !

hi mate looking to do this to my ibiza do you think i could get them to fit my mk4?

I think we chatted through E38, the late Ibiza have a totally different shape base etc to the yr 2000 ones, so I think we'll struggle with that, sorry !

are they still electric, heated and folding?

More importantly do they give the same field of view as the originals? If not then personally I think this kind of mod should be made illegal. In fact I'd go as far as saying that all car manufacturers should be obligated to ensure that their cars have a minimum FOV from the driving seat, specifying such things as maximum pillar thickness, (as seen by the driver), mirror sizes and their FOV etc. IMO the first and foremost consideration for any car design is safety, (not just for the driver and passengers at the expense of everyone else, which is the case now). I'd make anything that distracts the driver from their job of driving safely illegal for fitment inside a car, (eg DVD players, mobile phone kits etc), and I'd remove all the techy gadgets that make people believe they can drive like idiots and the car will get them out of trouble, (eg electronic stabilisation, cruise control, automatic brake systems connected to proximity detectors etc).

Drivers are far too molly coddled in todays cars and you can see the affect in some of the amazingly poor driving displayed on todays roads. People treat driving their car in the same way as they sit in front of the TV, it's almost become a passive act for most people.

Rant over.

The bases should be the same mate, I would have thought.

Yes electric adjustment
heated depends on the lens fitted, but the terminals will be there
folding - yes, but not electrically folding....

I see your point, in response, these mirrors are deemed completely legal and fit for purpose on standard fitted Lupos and Polos, so no reason why not.

I completely agree that it is up to the individual to make sure that they can drive safely and competently in modified or standard vehicle.

I drive my MK4 Golf with these on, I'm 6'9" and so have a most unusual driving position to most people and am confident even towing with these mirrors on - but it is up to the individual !

My only issue might be that even though they're legal for the Lupo's and Polo's, the Leon (all classes of MK1) has simply appalling rear visibility due to the raised boot lid. Don't think I need to explain what reducing the wing mirrors is going to do for visibility.

Sorry if it sounds negative, it's nice to see people making stuff for Leons, but i'd much rather have the regular ones that fold away.

Its go to be done. look a lot neater on Mk 4 golf, yet to see on a Leon.

Would be doing it to mine if I was keeping it.

I would be more than confident driving with the smaller mirrors, I use my mirrors a lot when driving, and having driven a Lupo for a while with the smaller nearside mirror, the differing size makes no difference.

I'm sure some one is brave enough to go for it - I saw them in black on an Orange polish Leon local to me the other - pure class !

Cant you just buy a euro spec passenger side mirror housing then? My cup car has the small mirrors on both sides fyi. Pic below for anyone who's confused. And as for visibility i have no issues at all on track, plenty of vision all round, just the rear view is tricky being so low down with a picnic bench on the back!
