Distance Buying

I posted a thread in here a few weeks back when I nearly bought an 04' Ibiza Cupra from a Seat approved dealer round the corner from my house. I went on holiday for a week and decided not to put a deposit, when I returned it was gone :(

Anyway I have found another for about the same price only it is 300 miles away at another Seat approved dealer. I phoned and enquired, was told that I would have to pay in full 2 days before collecting the vehicle, and that I am covered by distance selling laws if I am unhappy with it when I get down there. Ideally I dont want to have to make more than 1 trip, so just looking for some advice from people who have bought long distance before?

I had to put a non-refundable deposit on my car which was 200 miles away. I did HPI check and forum search and had no real problems with it fortunately.

Probably should have said in my original post.

I live in Glasgow, and I am looking at

SEAT IBIZA 1.8 20V T CUPRA 3-Door HATCHBACK, Platinum Grey - 11476miles, reg KS54TZP

at Cheshunt Motor Company, I would be extremely grateful if someone did manage to pop in and have a look if they were local would be superb :)

The train is about 5hrs 30mins and costs £45

also a black 05' plate at Wiltshire and Sons in Farnham RX05JBY

Grey seems to suit the car a bit better but I have never seen a Black one in real life.

Both these companys seem to get good comments on the forum anyway, but I just need some info on interior (smoker?), wheel condition, exterior condition. the usual stuff!!

It's a gamble. I travelled from Falkirk to Torquay (900mile round trip) to get my Cupra TDI.

I was buying privately and had seen about 30 photos of the car and chatted to the seller for a good hour or so on the phone before deciding to make the trip. The photos and the chat were enough to convince me the car was in good condition, and that the seller was genuine and a nice bloke (he was a SCN member, what more can I say :D).

But, I was prepared to return empty-handed if the car had been a duffer. It's important not to delude yourself and take a car "just because I've made the journey" if it's not up to your expectations.

Both of these places are in London btw.

Im looking for anything out the ordinary basically. tyre/brake wear, interior condition (smoked in or not?) condition of the exterior panels (any notable scratches), guaranteed mileage, any work done on the car. Could even test drive it if you were up for it!!

Andycupra i need to do 2 more meaningful posts before I can pm, email?
