New Head Unit

Hi, I am about to fit a Blaupunkt Milano Head Unit to my Leon and I'd like to confirm I'm, doing the right thing before cutting any wires. (I'm sure this info is on the site somewhere and altgough I have searched, I cannot find it).

Firstly I have read that I need to swap the permenant +ve with the +ve which comes on with the ignition (as memory not working), but is this right as the stereo does not stay on all the time?

Also I have bought an ariel booster but I am not sure where to plug the blue power cable. The stereo has a power output for a powered ariel and I was going to try and connect it to that or should I connect it to the ignition +ve.

Lastly is the K-line wire (to be cut) the grey wire with a white stripe.

You've plugged your new headunit in and it doesn't stay on all the time ?

That's a new one on me - you would normally have to swap the +ive and IGN to keep the radio settings, but the headunit should have constant power until you do this

The blue (power) lead from the aerial booster just needs an IGN supply (it'll ground through the aerial lead)

Never heard of a K Line wire before now, but I did find this -
the security system and the onboard diagnostic uses the stock radio to close the circuit. There is a seperate connector for these wires that plug into the stock radio. When you install an aftermarket deck, the deck will not have a connector for these wires, therefore it is eliminated. Furthermore, if a check engine light is on or something, the dealer will be unable to properly diagnose it. I own a 2002 passat that i have installed a head unit on. If the CEL comes on i have to take out the deck and reinstall the stock radio. With the proper connections.
so you may be better getting / making an ISO adapter harness which swaps the +ive and IGN feeds, gives you a little more room to plug in your connectors, gives you a small length of IGN wire that you can strip to power your aerial booster and means you don't have to cut any of the original wiring (incase you have to re-connect your old headunit)

What he said...you're much better butchering a £10 aftermarket adaptor than your car's original wiring...

Thanks for advice, Ive just ordered an adaptor off ebay (£7), hopefully will be able to fit it all behind the head unit.
