Depends how good you want your brakes to be! Why not get the ds2500 pads and brembo disks that Bill does. They are a good upgrade over standard and wont involve big brake prices.

I have a similar setup on mine, using Ultimax discs and DS2500 Pads, the fluid is the most important factor, I run motul RBF600 which is DOT 4, but has a very high dry and wet boiling point, which is all important when it comes to brake fade - of which i get none.. Im very impressed with the setup.

Compbrake do 4 pot kits for mk2 golfs, which will fit (same hubs etc) for £495 i think? Correct me if im wrong..

740 is cheapest et but its still a lot of money for a set of brakes!

its not... trust me it really is'nt for proper brakes.
My audi brakes are ~£2500 to buy

Brembo 2-piece GT kit using the same GT junior calipers is >£2500 also.
My ibiza AP's are £1200

what price do you put on proper brakes?

now, if you want some pimprovement, consider grooved disks and performance pads, and high temp brake fluid.. as an intermediate option.
eg: Badger5 grooved 280mm brembo disks, DS2500 brake pads, Motul RBF600 brake fluid.

You can then drive em to this extreme and not have any clue inside the car how hard they're actually working... perfect pedal and stopping still!!! :D

Compbrake reccommend Hawk pads tho... disk munchers and severe dust which eats into the paintwork

They do an 'intermediate' pad compound though dont they? Dont have any experience with them to be honest, but not many bad things about them?

There is an audi 4 pot option some people use on mk2's can specify a model though.. late 80's audi coupe? S2?? A serach on club gti might shed some light on it..

I'm probably gonna get slated for this but I just upgraded my discs and pads to ATP grooved discs and OMP pads and they are very good, soooooooo much better than the standard items and for what I use the car for
