Greetings - new Cupra 20VT owner

Hi all,

I've just sold my Toledo V5 after nearly 3 years of happy ownership and have replaced it with a nice shiny yellow Leon 20VT - thought I'd say hello.

It's an 03 plate with 36k on the clock and is pretty much mint - not even one curb on the alloys, I'm very pleased so far. Don't think the previous owner was a member here, but if you're reading congrats, the car is a credit to your care (and enjoy the Corsa VXR, yuk )

I'm still going through the 'getting to know you' phase having had the car for 3 weeks now, and a couple of classic minor Leon problems are there - it pulls slightly to the left, the coolant sensor reports low coolant when it's very cold, slightly lumpy ride for the first couple of minutes again when very cold etc - nothing unpleasant and the subject of many posts.

I'm booked in with Will at Performance Torque for his remap and DV package in the first week of December, coupled with a green cotton filter will probably be the limit of my modding, but looking forward to the changes. As it is, considering it only has 30bhp on top of the Toledo it feels a load quicker.

Here are some pics which will hopefully work!

Just one question springs to mind at the moment - the yellow paint is a little faded, only really noticeable when you compare the metal to the plastic bits i.e the boot spoiler and petrol cap are a bit brighter than the bodywork, as are the inside of the doors. Will a decent cleaning product (suggestions?) sort this out or is it a T-cut job?

Car looks good bruv..........I couldnt suggest a product for your paint fade problem but I think your lumpy ride maybe MAF or coil pack.

Ive the same problem recently but thats what i think it would be..........would love for more help on this too. lol

A decent polish will help your paint fade to a certain extent, but won't work miracles - the damage is already done.

Also, get your bottle of T Cut and throw it straight in the bin - it's much too harsh for modern clear coat paints!

get some meguires liquid gold polish, its the best by far and leaves a nice thick layer or polish, i wont use owt else. Only problem is its 15 quid a bottle

You'd be better off with a mild abrasive, not T cut though (T cut is very aggressive)
With an application sponge and alot of elbow grease you will easily get it looking tip top again

yeah i have to agree with junior polishedbliss is a great site
when i bought mine it was the same as yours (patchwork)
i used mqs gold range it was ok
but i now use this from poorboys with imo is far better

very nice car mate, exactly like mine only lower mileage lol. I tried everything to try and get the paint up but no luck. I gotta ask, do u know why they pull to the left? i've had mine tracked a few times and the mechanics reckoned it wasn out.

It depends where the damage is - quite often it's the underlying colour that's discoloured not the clear coat and so there's nothing you can do with it. Obviously, if the damage is in the clear coat then it should be fixable

Clear cote doesn't discolour (apart from getting dirty)
It only scratches, dissapears or oxidises
If there is clear cote there the problem well be with it
If there is no clear cote then OH DEAR!!!! you have got problems
If you have clear cote then it will be scratched. Get rid of the scratches and
VIOLA shiney car!!

Thanks for all the replies, you friendly bunch you, and for the cleaning tips. Now the cold weather has set in for certain I'll probably leave the paint issue until the warmer weather kicks in - I'm fighting a losing battle just trying to keep the damn thing looking reasonably clean at the moment - why did I buy a yellow one again? Oh yes, becuase they're faster

I thought you may be interested to hear about a couple of light modifications I've had done and how it has literally transformed the car - some very surprising results.

In a nutshell, I've had a re-map at P-Torque, a Green Cotton panel filter, a Forge 007P, a Fabia rear wiper and a new pair of front tyres along with a tracking check and adjustment.

First and foremost, the steer to the left problem has gone - not saying this will cure any other cars out there (of which I've read about loads) but either the new tyres or the adjustment (more likely "it's quite a lot out mate") has sorted it nicely.

The unexpected change is the lumpiness is 100% gone - this is either down to the re-map or having the DV fitted (done at the same time), but I'll credit Will at P-Torque with it none the less - I've very pleased as again from what I've read this can be a can or worms - at -2 degrees this morning when I would have usually kangarooed down the road I drove off perfectly smoothly.

Last and by no means least, the re-map - everything I had hoped for and more, the car pulls like a train - I won't bore you with the details as there's a more detailed write-up in the P-Torque forum but at £225 the difference is incredible, anyone thinking about it think no more and get it done.

Hopefully your steer to the left problem is sorted, did they do a 4 wheels tracking or just 2?

Hope so - Just had the 2 done, they said that the backs couldn't be adjusted - I think I read that on here somewhere so just accepted it as read but could be wrong.
