Hi guys i have just recieved a HID kit to fit to my LCR. the only problem is that i think one of the ballasts is faulty!!! i fitted the first one no probs, lights up and looks really good. Come to fit the second one and all that it does is try to ignite and then goes off completely??? so i swapped the bulbs over to see if it was the bulb - that bulb did the same!! so the next step was to try both bulbs bak in the one that worked before - both worked. so this points to the ballast!! i have emailed the seller from ebay and just awaiting a response!! anybody else had anything like this???

cheers craig

got to be the ballast :(

U've done exactly right to rule out any other problem. Unless the wiring on the faulty ballast isn't making a good connection? Can you wire the good ballast up to the other side and see if it works?

This would defo rule out bad wiring on the car end, but the wiring could be faulty on the ballast unit itself.

Do you have a multimeter?

So it defo has output, does the output decrease over time?

Did you connect the light up with the multimeter attached too? Sounds like the output stage on the ballast offers output but when something draws current from it the voltage drops to a low level.

never checked the ballast for voltage drop. but that is what it seems like. tries to ignite, flickers a few times then cuts off completely. And the other side is still working.

I got from egay too. Dianne shop (I've been wondering, boy or girl...Hmmm) one of the ballasts became faulty after a week or so. Sent back, got a replacement back without too much trouble.

The only downer is it takes a couple of days between resposnes, then there's postage time (and cost) each way so I was without my HIDs for almost a month :(

There seem to be a few problems with these ballasts and a lot of people here have had issues. However, the kit looks identical to the one from mydepot, even down to the sticker on the bulb casings, and I suspect they are both just as cheaply made, it's just more people have gone for the ebay ones to save a few more quid thus more returns

Can't complain though, under 50 quid vs over 100 for the UK equivalent and yours is only the 3rd hardware issues (including mine) I've read about.

Yea does sound like the ballast with this one, but normally with fitting, watch u dont blow a fuse aswell folks. Thought mine was broke but when HID kit are turned on they draw more current than usual and can pop a fuse once in a while. Cant remember the fuse numbers, but there are seperate ones for each front headlight (rear light wont go out). Just to let u know

I had a faulty ballast on one of my HID’s about three weeks ago. It kept blowing the 7.5A fuse. I ordered mine from mydepots.com and obviously they came all the way from China, which took about 10 days. I emailed them to ask for a replacement, but they wanted me to send my faulty one back first before they sent a replacement.

I worked out it would cost about £60 to send it, it would’ve taken about 10 days, plus a further 10 days to get the replacement back to me. So I just ordered a replacement set of ballasts.

When they arrived I fitted one of the new ones and guess what? That was faulty too, fortunately the second new one was fine and works a treat, I now have two faulty ballasts which are as useful as a solar powered torch!

They still look good though and illuminate the road better than standard bulbs, it was just a pain that I had to wait ages to get them working.

My postage cost to Hong Kong was roughly a tenner. I don't know exactly as the girlfriend sent it, and also fitted them (I know, the shame :( ) but she said it was about that. Insured as well I think (for an extra couple of quid)

My post doesn't make it clear, but I only paid for postage 1 way, he/she/it paid for the return postage.

When i returned my bulbs to Dianne shop the guy i was dealing with told me to mark it up "return to sender" which i did. He got them within a week and refunded me straight away!

So cost me nothing for returning them....
