Headlight Not Working

Hey guys. Hoping you can help...

My off side headlight has stopped working. I've recently fitted new headlights but they were both working at one stage, although i'm not sure the O/S light was working properly - i didn't check.

The other day i took the car out for a short drive and noticed the off side headlight wasn't working properly. It was only giving off a tiny bit of light, then it just went completly...

The weird thing is, the high beam lights work, but the dipped and main beams don't work. (The indicators all work...)

I've tested the fuses and it's not a blown fuse. A bad earth connection maybe? The bulb works 'coz i tried it in the N/S headlight...

Any ideas? Thanks.

EDITED TO ADD: Will Vag Com pick up the fault? Thanks.

Ok, time to confess. I'm a bloody fool!

I've just had another go at the headlights with a volt meter and i've had a result. The bulb had gone! LOL!

I thought the big bulb was a main/ high beam combination bulb, and the small bulb was the dipped bulb, but no, the small bulb is the dipped/ main bulb, and the big bulb is just the high beam bulb! (Is that right?)

I wondered why the high beam would work but the main one wouldn't... Now i know

is this an " im a numpty " type thread ?
;)

It appeared so, yes.

Just to update, the side light did need replacing but this didn't fix the main bulb not working. I was very confused because the high beam would work but the main beam wouldn't. After thinking what it could be i thought i'd try and change the main/ high beam bulb as a last resort, and surprise surprise it's fixed the problem. Weird how both bulbs had gone though...

I'm probabaly being a bit dumb, but how/ why did the high beam work when the main beam wouldn't, even though they use the same bulb?..
