I have just notice that when i start my car it shows that it is cold which is normal... and as always i let the engine tick over for about a min and a half until the revs are under 1k.

I then start driving normal (not over 3.5k Revs) not revving hard as car still not fully warmed up, and after about 4 minute the temp gage will jump from 50 all the way to 90 for about 5 seconds and then drop down back to 50????
 it does this about 2 or 3 time before fully warmed up.

When the car has been driving for about 15min then it will stay at normal temp half way which is at 90.

Is this some thing to worry about? Is this a symptom of something about to go wrong?

Thanks for all the help.

Hi malice, this used to happen on my old car (106 gti). I think that it had something to do with the thermostat on the side of the engine block opening up as the engine started to get hotter and hotter, then as it opened the coolant moved round the engine block cooling it down like you're seeing on your temp gauge. No idea if this is the same on these engines but just a thought!

replace the temperature sensor. mine did (near enough) exactly the same. Very common fault :)

Cheers Guys, will wait see how it goes... does not happen ever day.

Thanks again :)

It never rains but poor's....

I am also having a problem with the right indicator that when i indicate right the right arrow in the in car display flashes very fast in stead of flash then pausing for a second before flashing again.

I checked the indicator and it was not working, until i gave it a bash with my hand on the side of the car and started working again. So disconnected the bulb and reconnected it and it was fine for a few weeks but today it did it again for about 2 seconds, started flashing very fast.

This is not some thing i can leave as i almost hit another car as i indicated that i was turning right on the mini roundabout and the other driver could not see any indication of this... Luckily we both hit the breaks quickly and just mist hitting each other :drive1:

I don't think its the bulb as it looks in good condition and its not a loose connection as it is a nice tight fit and not moving.

What has gone wrong?
Cheers

indicator relay IIRC - cheap to fix i think .... one of the folks i work with had the same problem with her golf :) Either that or a loose bulb connection in the base of the connector.

Same as the above Post, How much is it to replace and can a Noob like me Fix it?

Cheers mate

I think i paid £21 and fitted it myself..

Note.. make sure your coolant is cool before hand though and you have some spare to top it back up.

not like me, wasnt boiling hot but was warm.. if you search you will find detailed pics :)

edit: since i was bored i did the search myself, here you go: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1287042

Ha im back.... with another prob. [:@]

I sorted the temp sensor and now it reads fine, but as i only drive my car on weekends and the odd day during the week
I'm now getting a beeping sound about 3 beeps and the red light on the temp gage keeps flashing.... this happens every time i go to start the car up

But if i turn the engine off and then back on every think is fine?

Is it just not happy with me as i don't drive it as much? :(

Cheers

you really should use the search button more ;)

scrape the prongs in your header tank with a screwdriver or top up fluid if low. not above the max line though.
