OK I'm stuck at work waiting for the AA ... my car won't start, you put the key in and the dash lights up, turn the key and it does nothing. All the lights work etc, I've tried jumping it on the off chance and nothing. I'm thinking immoboliser ... any secret things I should be checking?

It's an Ibiza Cupra TDi (mark 4 surprisingly, I even posted it in the right place (I hope))

Hmmm, probably a bit late but I reckon its best left for the AA to sort, it sounds electrical and I bet the problem will be traced once they plug it in.

Funny you should mention it, mine did something similar on Saturday, but I turned the key again and it slowly started. I put it down to not being used in a few days.

I hope they fixed it there and its not being towed to Motorvogue!

starter motor wire to solenoid

Give that man a prize! ;) Yeah it's nicely snapped. Mr AA was very good, had it figured out in about 10 minutes, then spent an hour getting at the bl**dy thing because of its location and fiddliness. I did apologise and said I'd kick Pedro if ever I met him.

He's sorted it but said it's more of a temporary fix and as it's under warranty it will be visiting a dealer in the very near future.

Cheers guys I would have seen this earlier but he turned up within 20 minutes, thanks anyway. :D

Thanks Pat, nice to know that when I said "Hi it's Tony" you were paying attention. Phone a friend my a**e! Haha. Next time I'll say I'm not eating first and it'll all become clear

it's not the earth's tom - the solenoid earth's itself

it's the single wire running out the side of the starter

Be careful checking it, Mr AA snapped the plastic getting the broken connector off. Still, after driving home through Moulton Park all is well so I think the bodge is holding well for now. (For those not in the know Moulton Park is an industrial estate full of pot holes and lumps and bumps)

If you can loosen it or give it some play (it looks like it's cable tied tight) that might be an idea. It's a pain to get to though.

It's underneat the battery and a little bit to the left, it's a pain to get to, you will need to remove your cold air feed if you have one and possibly the battery.

Having trouble starting my 2003 ibiza and it could be this, the symptoms sound right..... Can anyone shed anymore light on this than above mentioned? When I look at where I think the starter motor is (from directions above) there is a black and red wire loose which is bound in black plastic, I've no idea where it should be........

Sorted it in a few hours.... Wire had sheared off, managed to bodge something on it though and get it all reconnected and sorted :)
