HELP... How do you remove the inlet manifold???

Hi peeps.


Got a quote of £25 and £20 to polish up my charge pipe and inlet manifold on my BAM LCR.


I am going to attempt to remove both parts myself.

Im confident about the charge pipe as this should be easy, just awquard at the back! (correct?!)


Has anyone got any advice or a fitting guide on how to remove the inlet manifold?!

i did a search the other day and the best I could find was to flop the fuel rail out of the way and put a rag over the head so no crap falls into the chambers oh and to wash that area with a hose first to help too.


apart from that has anyone got anything to add?!

I will either buy a new OEM gasket or a evo shield type gasket whilst im at it too.

also I have no idea as to what torque rating the bolts need to be done up to, I assume "tight" is ok?!


any help is great appreciated.

I wont be doing this until next Thursday eve I think.

it's pretty much easy mate - make sure you get no crap in (hence the hosing) stuff the holes once the manifold is off / tape them closed

keep the bolts clean so you don't cross thread them on assembly.

but it's not hard to do at all

Yep, definitely do the hosing thing and perhaps even get in there with a stout paint brush.

Like m0rk says, it's a bit daunting, but not actually that hard.

also is there a guide out there somewhere for how to remove it?! (maybe in an APR turbo fitting guide etc)

the more info/help the better I will feel I think!

as said I think its just daunting rather than hard!

Just thought... will I need a new gasket to the throttle body/valve?!

obviously only if I take that part off the inlet, but I guess I would like to get that polished if possible. so therefor would you guys suggest I leave it on or take it off?!

if I leave it on the inlet to be polished but remove the pipes etc to it is there anything i need to watch out for?!

or should i just remove the four (i think its 4!) bolts that hold it onto the inlet and just have the inlet polished.

what have most others done?! (polished the throttle valve or not?!)

i just have the manifold polished, but the throttle body does look a bit naff.

if i were to do it again, i'd get them both done, if possible

what about the black plastic thing on it?! do i have to take that off or be careful of anything?!

and the small pipes that go to it?! do any have fuel in?! or am i ok?!

It's dead easy to get off, but re torqueing the bolts when you put it back on is a bit of a bugger. Use a torque wrench. They are easy to over torque.

what torque should they be?!

i dont have a torque wrench (been meaning to buy one for a year or so now! ) and thus was simply going to do them up tight!

would this not be ok?!

8- 10 nm but if you cant get a torque wrench then use a T bar and tighthen them up to they stop flush with the manifold and go 1/2 to 3/4 turn more or the amount of power it takes to open a plastic fizzy drinks bottle

just looked on ETKA...

058 129 717 D is the inlet gasket @ £3.10

and the throttle valve/body gasket is 028 129 748 @ £1.76

not too bad. Il order them if I dont get an uprated inlet gasket

Im thinking of doing this aswell. Sorry to hijack! How are the injectors held in? is there some kind of seal coz i was going to replace all the seals/gaskets when fitting the new intake.

Thank you. as i thought! The holes are treaded so something is screwed in first then the o rings and injectors in to the hole? is this right? its just i thought it be a good idea to replace all seal from every part that will need to come off the manifold.

Last time I looked they were about 60p ea from GSF. not big money even from a stealer

nice one. one more thing i was thinking is should i clean the inside of the manifold? flush it out with something maybe? i have a secondhand manifold im going to polish my self then just swap it over with the one on the car
