Cupra 06 - Headunit / Sound options?

Hey folks,

Im getting a 06 Cupra next week, but I just wondered;

Is the standard HU rubbish?

With my MK3 I used the original head unit, but decided to wire in some components up front and a sub and amp in the rear.

It was only half decent Pioneer stuff, think it cost about £120 all in, but sounded good enough for me.

With the Cupra, are the speakers any good as standard? Or am I gonna have to do the same again as I did with my MK3?

Obivously it does not have a cd changer like the MK3 did, but I guess if you have an Mp3 stereo you don't need a changer.

I admit I really can't be bothered to start taking panels off to fit wires under, so I would probably take it somewhere to get done professionally.

Thanks.

Yes, the standard stereo is dire!

A lot of people have replaced theirs, I have one of my old Kenwood units in mine and it does the iPod job just fine. It doesn't match the dash, but at least yo7u can fit one into a MK4.

The standard speakers aren't too bad actually, but if you like your music loud I guess you'll grow to hate them as they'll probably wear out. Its a fair amount of hassle to change the speakers so I haven't bothered.

Hi mate,

So it's definately a new HU job then, and potentially the speakers.

What about the bass on standards? I had a 12" Sub and amp in my old MK3 Cupra (Sony Xplod would you believe...The shame!) And it sounded good but I had the sub turned down as Im not one of these cruiser types, I just want it to sound half decent enough to be acceptable at normal volumes.

Is it 6" front door speakers and 8" rear speakers or something?

I've just replaced my std HU with an Alpine (middle of the range effort, no idea on model number!) and it's made a nice difference. I was mainly doing to to be able to play WMA files and also for a connection to my MP3 player, but the sound is much better. So yeah, I'd say the original HU is gash.

The speakers seem to be pretty good though - decent amount of bass for std speakers IMO, maybe a bit too treble-y in my non-audio-appreciating opinion...

No idea on the sizes either...

Another one for the Cupra club then?

I know I keep harping on about it, but this Becker I've got installed is damn good. To me it sounds 100% better than the Alana that's there as standard. As Tom said the speakers are a bit of a pain to change which is why I haven't done them yet.

I'll start with just changing the HU then, it's easy enough, and if it makes a good enough difference then job done, I might be able to have a useable boot for once LOL! :)

Hi Ken! Whats a becker then? Is that the make? You got a Cupra as well?

Going by mates polo with his stock componets compared to my aftermarket infinity reference ones I would say taht you would not need to replace them unless your a serious music head. Just get a new headunit and a sub and amp package.

We wired my mates polo up in about an hour including drilling of a hole lol.

Caraudiosecurity.com are by far the cheapest of all the reputable sites/shops. Check them out if you need anything. ;)

The lighting looks alittel lighter then the rest of the red?

alos does the AUX IPOD cable and the steerign wheel controls work with it? This was one fot he things i was most pleased about with the Cupra, the AUX and the steering wheel controls.
