Ibiza Fr problems just under 2k revs

Hi, I'm new here and found this forums on my search for information regarding my problem. I've been reading it for a few days now and think its great! Very informative and everyone so helpful.

Anyway, I haven't been able to find exactly what I'm looking for and please, I need some advice......

I have a 56 plate ibiza fr pd130, its not modified, I've had it 2 months, and just under 2k revs, regardless of what gear it seems to "cough." Its not all the time, but it does it a lot. Its as though its stuck between trying to accelerate and not. When it does it it last a second or 2 and its like a series 1 -3 small jerks. They arent severe in strength.

I can accelerate past it, its always in the same rev range, and doesn't seem to effect power as such. Driving the car in 4th, up to 2k revs, and gently the increasing the revs from 1750 - 2000 revs and back it normally can be felt.

Its been back to the dealer once so far, they found nothing. They've offered to take it back for 3 days and strip it to find the fault. But I'm trying to find if anyone has had this before, and what it was. The ECU has been reset to see if it helped, but it made no difference.

Possibly related but maybe not, after a short drive, sitting with the engine on but not moving and then turning off the air con or into "ECON" the car occasionally idles rough. Enough to mildly shake the car, but more than it should, enough for a passenger to question it.

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give. Much appreciated!

mine does it to its just a flat spot of the power delivery which is so annoying... if u got it re-mapped it would dissapear for sure and it could be the same power as the fr series roughly.. im re-mapping mine for partly this reason... :)

an update:

Yesterday was at the SEAT dealer with the mechanic and went for a drive. Couldn't reproduce the problem. It doesn't appear to do it as much when the engine is hot and I'd just driven down the motorway.

Beginning of next month the car is going back to be checked properly. The dealer wants to know what the problem is and so do I? As above maybe its just an annoying feature of the car, but it would be good to know for sure and then I'll get it remapped.

Today I changed the airfilter (which incidentally was stuck a little out the airbox so it wasn['t seated properly) for a green cotton one and this has helped loads as well. I'm guessing simply screwing the thing together properly helped more than anything else!

If anyone else knows anything I'd still like to know. As soon as i have a decent update I'll post again.....:)

Do a search on EGR valve. Common on these engines (including mine). VAG.com can minimise it. Disconnecting the pipe from the valve and blocking it might cure it, but you'll most likely end up with a light on the dashboard.

i think seat made the air box to fit like that as mine was like that to but my k&n sat inside the box a bit better i cant tell you wether changing to my k&n helped the flat spot or not the mechanic wouldt notice the flat spot unless he was driving it as he would feel that there was no power when he put his foot down ... its easiest to tell when your slowing the revs down to the flat spot then trying to accelerate out of it...

Bilston.
My fr does the same thing. Its as if its struggles at the low rev end which for a derv souldnt be an issue.

As for the jerky idle mine too I've spoken to the stealer about it and its just a rought idle

Count yourself lucky you dont have the windy door problem.. I've been chasing that for over 3 months now and still no further along...

Has anyone else noticed that when you wind the window down when its been raining, the roof full of water, that all the water pours through the window onto your arm and shoulder?

Cars nowadays don't have the gutters on the edge of the roof to drain the water away like they used to.

Bit like when you open the tailgate, and the water always seems to end up dripping inside if it's been raining.

Does your engine code contain the letters "BLT"? If so, this is a known problem with that variant of the engine. It stutters somewhere between 1750 and 2000 RPM.

Yep, it probably will have at that age. I was trying to steer away from the air filter and point towards the EGR valve.

Dmjw01 I've just checked, the sticky in the service manual for the engine does contain the letters BLT. Any suggestions on how to proceed, what can be done or what has been done previously? One other thing, how do ytou know about this "feature" ? I've been searching for ages and come up with virtually nothing.

After a quick read of the complete thread above, it DOES sound exactly like what I have. Everything ties in nicely. SO it is indeed the EGR valve. Once I've confirmed it and got it sorted I'll post back as to whether its fixed the fault. Cheers everyone for their help so much. Much much appreciated !!

its exactly the same for me, as the engine warms up the problem goes away, or at least seems to happen less often. My car is still booked in for the beginning of September as the dealer wants to try and fix it. I've given them the information from various threads here about EGR and will have to wait and see what they come up with. Thanks for the link, I'll pass that on as well and see what they are prepared to do about it. They are really helpful.

Hmmm ..... looks good. I think this will have a similar result to using VAG.com as it will be letting less through with the smaller hole in the gasket. Might give it a try!:)
